I'm saddened by the demise of crack_van, but ten years going strong as a community is pretty impressive for anything in fandom. So I've spent quite a lot of this evening going backwards through the popslash recs and tabbing up stories to revisit. Of course, a lot of them won't be there, but it should be a nice, nostalgic wallow.

Picking up a meme, on the grounds that I like to witter on, it's good to have an excuse, and I like to have something fresh on my reading list, so I expect you do, too. Even on Christmas Day.

It's sad that all of LJ is much less utilized than in the past. I tend to think it's all the new stuff out there (Twitter and such). Just a few of us stubborn people who continue to hang on and keep hoping things will liven up!

Even I sort of prefer to post stories to AO3, I just miss that there's isn't a friends page and chit chat there. I actually think it's easier to find my own stories on LJ, only because I tend to do multiple indexes and keep them updated. I definitely like the chapter feature over at AO3. It's far easier if you tend to pause in the midst of the story to find your place without having to skim and scroll through several pages.

I agree - I miss the social aspect of posting stories. When I look back to the earliest stories I posted in my journal, there are lively comments threads, which sometimes involve actual conversation about the stories or tangents to them. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone do commentfic at AO3, whereas I've committed a mini-remix in comments, and had a 'missing scene' put in comments to one of my stories, and both were great things!

I've put your Dec 1 pick to Dec 2, simply because I read my DW comments first and someone else had chosen that date. Thanks!

I miss the active communities! Even in the current fandom it seems so many people have moved on.

I actually have a DW account, but mostly just to back up my fiction. Oddly enough, although I have people friended there, absolutely nothing shows up on my f-list. Odder still, even when I sign in over at DW, it doesn't accept my comments! I gave up on it long ago, LOL!

Sorry, it's a spell from Harry Potter! A Patronus charm produces a non-corporeal animal protector unique to each person. To produce a Patronus, the caster is often asked to concentrate on their happiest, most joyous moment. It's just my silly way of asking what was the happiest moment in your life :)
