make your own kind of music
Jun. 30th, 2021 11:04 pmIt occurs to me that my rather skeletal Fandomgiftbox prompts might leave possible authors wondering what the heck to do. Um. (Equally possible that nobody is interested, but eh.)
So,
As regards Popslash and Glambert/Adam Lambert, I write the kind of things I like to read, so usually reality-based (but added crack/magical realism is FINE), with guys who get on with life even if they're breaking their hearts over someone they've been in love with for ages. (Long term pining ftw!) I've also done a lot of Dear Santa letters here (for popslash) in case you need some guidance. Lance Bass/Adam Lambert is a favourite pairing of mine but is not necessary - Kris and Brad are both awesome too.
Jane Austen: P&P and Persuasion are my favourites, though I've recently been getting my ideas on Mansfield Park rearranged somewhat. I firmly believe Elinor Dashwood should have married Colonel Brandon and Marianne should have grown up before she married anyone. Um. So, if you want to do a fix-it or an alternate timeline, those would be fine. Or a little scene of Lizzie and Jane or Charlotte chatting about life, or Anne Elliot with a smart friend, or... whatever. Maybe some of our heroines meet as married women! Oh, and Colonel Fitzwilliam is entirely welcome to pop up and marry somebody who is otherwise ill served by the text.
Georgette Heyer: my favourite heroines are the non-traditional ones—not the beauties who succeed in winning their Earls, but the unexpected heroines. Miss Theale, in the Talisman Ring, is *brilliant* and so funny; the heroine from Sylvester - Phoebe? Drusilla Morville. Jenny Chawleigh. And also the somewhat unexpected heroes, like Hugo Darracott, who is adorable. Anything that sneaks away from the traditional romance plot, and Heyer does plenty of those.
Dorothy L Sayers: I'm firmly in favour of Peter and Harriet as a pairing, though they get a bit tedious on the subject of marriage at times. The two of them working out a problem together would be fun - maybe Harriet needs to figure out a plot twist, or maybe Peter's landlordly or other responsibilities need a bit of input from someone who knew what it was like to live on a shoestring. I'm also very fond of Bunter, so something from his POV would be delightful.
Black Sails: I'd love to read a Black Sails problem page/agony aunt something. NO IDEA what would be in it but one way or another it would be awesome. If the idea fills you with horror, there are so many excellent characters and situations in this show, so just go for it. Or stuff them in an AU... corporate sharks sounds like a logical option.
Leverage: just the guys being themselves. Love the OT3, Sophie too. Plot is particularly welcome, but a vignette with character would be fine. I mean, how to E, H and P feel about... frozen yogurt? feeding the ducks? cut flowers?
Vorkosigan: I cannot bring myself to name a favourite character! They are all wonderful and you can do anything with them. I came into the book series ass-backwards, starting with A Civil Campaign and going backwards to Memory, or possibly Mirror Dance, before deciding to start at the beginning - so my favourite era is the Mirror Dance-Civil Campaign section, and I love Miles with Ekaterin more than any of his other loves. But any character(s) will probably delight me.
