When it comes down to it, we can make a decent case that we should *all* be spending 'fun money' or even 'spare money' on the betterment of those less well off than ourselves... but somehow, we don't. And indeed, a bit of self-gratification isn't so very bad, and a bit of fun is good for us. Pity this particular bit of fun would involve transatlantic flights.
