pensnest | (no subject)

I had a GP appointment this morning—originally made for a prescription review, but I also asked for help with this apparently eternal *thing* infesting my lungs. I have more antibiotics and also went for a chest X-ray in case of nasties. There's a good system in place, a mini-clinic at the N&NH dedicated to GP X-rays, so as soon as my name was on the computer I could get it done. A wait of about 20 minutes (once we got there, traffic was inexplicably clogged) and 'twas done.

Eh.

Beast also has the *thing* now, though it took him several weeks to succumb. We are a house of hideous coughs.

But I have begun singing again at rehearsals, and much to my surprise managed to get through a very intense sing last night without coughing until quite late on. We have our first Christmas singout on Saturday, another one next weekend, the Big One the weekend after that, and another, briefer one at the Forum a week later, to be followed by our chorus Christmas dinner.

This progression is, of course, ridiculous, given that Convention was at the very end of October, giving us very little time to polish up our non-Convention songs and Christmas fare, but we have been doing some really focused work at rehearsals, ten minutes on one thing then change to the next, and a timekeeper with a stopwatch. It's exhausting, but very satisfying, and effective.

I hope those of you celebrating Thanksgiving had a good one. Our shops are all trumpeting Black Friday here, which irritates the heck out of me. Here in the UK, it's just Friday.

Yup, having black Friday outside of the USA is just dumb.

Yup, it looks like the sales this year (in bricks and mortar stores, anyway) were not what the retailers were expecting, so maybe this will go back to just being a normal bloody Friday again, with internet sales kicking around for those sites that also have American arms... one can only bloody hope, anyway.

Yep! I assume a lot of USAians get the day off, hence the retail sharkbait? You'd think retailers here would have noticed that this does not happen in the UK!

As for Nick, though, ugh. And not to say that a popslash secret santa challenge is important, in the grand scheme of things, but there has been some, um, rearranging.

I do seem to be able to sing, happyily. I think the sinus blocking actually makes quite a good vocal chamber in my skull!

Yeah - it's just so daft. I don't mind Hallowe'en being more Americanised because, frankly, dressing up and dispensing sweeties is kinda fun. (I do like the Scottish system of 'guisers' who have to do something to earn their treats—but then, I'm the kind of person who makes carol singers on my doorstep sing an actual carol before I will give them any money!) But Black Friday is meaningless here. Harrumph.

Good luck getting rid of the lurking nastiness. Your household really has been hit hard.

I was out yesterday and every shop was displaying Black Friday signs. But what gets me is they've been doing it for a while now, and most have their sales until next week. That is not one day! As for the emails. My inbox is buried. I should do a search for Black Friday and delete the lot.
