Dear Me, I am building up links of Things To Read, what with GABG stories and Yuletide recs and my new books, and somehow I am watching more telly and knitting a nice, easy scarf instead. Ah, well.

I've finally put up the beginning of That MTYG Meme on the discussion group, here. Do, please, check it out and have a go—I'm not sure quite how this will work, whether we'll end up discussing in the comm or posting in our own journals, but I'd love to re-hash the joys of the popslash secret Santa just one more time.

My Favourite that I've written. Ahaha. Well, it's a bit like trying to choose one's favourite song, isn't it? But, after careful reflection, I think my favourite has to be in porco, veritas. Why? you ask. I shall explain, at length.

If I'd had to write for this recipient a few years sooner in my popslash career, I would have been horrified, because Nopseud is the person who got me into popslash, and I've always loved her writing. (Except Living Doll, because that would be Wrong.) But by the time this came around, I thought I'd have a reasonable chance of pulling it off.

Now, Nopseud was deep in the Brian love at this point, but luckily for me, she'd asked for Brian with Lance, and Lance I can write. I also knew there had to be a pig-worm involved, as she'd been highly excited when she found them online. The title first came to me as 'in porcino, veritas' but I consulted some polyglots on a forum somewhere and settled on 'in porco, veritas' as the correct version. After that, Spangles just sorta turned up, but really, why are there not more slash fairy godpiglets in fanfic?

It's a distinct handicap, writing for your favourite beta, but on the other hand, I was able to throw in a bunch of references Just 'Cause—like degus, pet adoption, newt, pink fairy armadillos and so forth. Plus, I remembered a comment of hers on a pop macro I did ages ago, and decided that would make a very good dream for Brian.

I'm not sure that I really got the right amount of bubble into my Brian characterisation, but I've not written a lot of Brian so I did what I could. The Lance stuff, of course, was easy. And overall, this seems like such a completely POPSLASH story, with the lunacy and the unexplained magicalness and so forth.

My Favourite that I've Received: You know, I've been amazingly lucky with my MTYG stories. Each and every one was written for me by someone who did her very best to write something I would like. (In fact, the only story written for me by someone who plainly didn't care even enough to check for typos was the very first DWNOGA story I got.) So its hard to single out just one.

However, I do have a favourite. It's this one, written by [personal profile] chalcopyrite. In addition to the Trickyfish, the humour, the romance and the hot sex there is a kind of meta-about-writing theme that I'd never have expected and just love. It's brilliant, and I'm glad my personal MTYG came to end on such a high note.

Our boiler is not working properly. Beast managed to re-start it a couple of times, but it persists in turning itself off and failing to come back on, and is now complaining about a lack of mains power, which is downright untruthful of it. We haven't been able to contact the plumber who serviced it about a month ago (though I am perhaps rather less trusting of him than I was, given that he serviced it a month ago). Fortunately the weather is fairly mild, and we can snuggle together for warmth.
