One of my (few) gripes with 'Galaxy Quest' is the idea that all the crew would show up at a convention in costume, with Alexander in full prosthetic makeup. This was definitely billed as a special thing, which it was!

Yeah... I mean, eventually, if you get published, there is money, but the quick fix of fannish feedback is a real buzz.
