On stages, various

Last night, 'The Hot Mikado' as performed by a local society. A lively, colourful, well-set and beautifully costumed show, sadly marred by the fact that the band was so loud it was extremely difficult to hear the words. Since these were (mostly) W S Gilbert's words, they were no doubt worth hearing. A pity, particularly when the singers were *very good indeed*.

And tonight, I carted my menfolk to the Boxmoor Playhouse to see a (hiss, spit) Jeffrey Archer courtroom drama called 'The Accused'. Surprisingly good, I thought. Another spectacular HHTC set, transforming much of the theatre into the Old Bailey, and a very competent set of actors, particularly those playing the prosecution and defence barristers. It was surprisingly involving, having to stand for the judge, and hear the rituals repeated. Naturally, we the audience were the Jury, and were supplied with red Guilty and green Not Guilty cards. I based my vote mostly on the fact that Archer is a noxious weasel and anyone he puts in the dock is bound to be the same, though I am obliged to note that my men both voted him Not Guilty.

The play does follow the normal Jeffrey Archer pattern of being absolute crap, but sufficiently engaging *while it's going on* to keep the audience. Actually a case presented like this would probably be laughed out of court, but on the other hand, it provided material for animated discussion (even from my Boy) on the way home, so I spose I should be gracious.

I won't, though. I mean, Jeffrey Bloody Archer! I'm somewhat indignant at having contributed, in a small way, to the Archer coffers, since presumably he gets something out of this. Grr. But it was the Company, so I hadda go.

Oh, oh, and I've just been watching the YouTube vids of Lance and Reichen's speeches when they got their HRC awards, and am awash with love. For anyone on my flist who isn't in [livejournal.com profile] still_gay, they're here:

Lance and Reichen are both wonderful. Their fluffiness makes me think of the hard-line 'OMG real men don't DO that kind of thing!' slash mafia who pop up sometimes. Lance was wearing Reichen class ring around his neck! They're *living* a high school AU, only in the real world.

I was amused by how nervous Reichen was compared to Lance, even though he still spoke very well. I guess when you've stood up in front of as many different audiences as Lance has, even the HRC dinner isn't quite as intimidating any more.
