I'm particularly pleased with that one, it's a little out of my usual style and it worked out very well.
Hmm... because I, koff, got 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all three icontests this week, which is nice but kinda embarrassing and leads me to wonder whether I shouldn't enter them all. OTOH, in two of the contests this week, there were only two or three entrants in total, and if I hadn't done icons, there'd have been so few in there. I dunno, really. I guess I should restrict myself to two entries per contest.
*laughs* Well, congratulations! It's a strange situation. Maybe the communites need a little pimping so you'll get more participants and you don't have to feel ambivalent about winning. Would it help to announce some of the challenges in the newsletter?
Thanks :-) I love making icons, and it really helps to have the weekly challenge because it defines the place to start - I have so many Lance pics now, I'd never know which one to choose if I didn't have them set. And I do like to support the communities in question. I just can't help wondering if it's a bit discouraging to other entrants if one person wins so much of the time.
On the other hand, winning by default because nobody else entered would probably not be particularly gratifying for them :)
There do seem to be a core set of icon makers that win most of the time. I don't know if that's because you're the only ones entering, or because you're the best, but I get a lot of entertainment out of voting, and the more there are to vote on the more fun it is...
It's nice to hear from someone who just votes, and it's true, it is nice to see what people have done with the challenges. I quite enjoy the voting when I haven't entered that week. And I guess the satisfaction would be diminished if hardly anyone were entering. I remember it took me ages to get my first banners, and I was *so* pleased when I finally managed it!
I'm in a LIMS challenge for SGA icons, which is interesting in many ways: the style of iconning is very different, and the style of the challenge does encourage learning. I think. People comment on which icons they don't like, and *why*, so I guess that gives icon-makers an idea where they went wrong.
