That icon meme, revisited

[livejournal.com profile] dixie_chicken asked me about these icons. A fine selection they are, too.

There is a totally fabulous bit of Backstreet footage from (I think) 2005, an interview on a rather quirky British TV programme, in which the interviewer said something on the lines of "We asked random people what they thought about you, now you have to guess their answers." It was the Cup My Ballots interview. (!) The first question was, Which Backstreet Boy is the dirtiest? The answer, by universal agreement was, Nick. "I don't know why they would say that about you, Nick, somebody mentioned your time in Paris," said the interviewer. (Is it sad that I can remember it almost verbatim? I have watched this many times, it is hilarious.)

Anyway. Which Backstreet Boy would most enjoy a spot of gardening? Answer was, Brian—and Backstreet got this one right, too, because Brian claimed to be a 'horticulturist'. The persons surveyed (three blokes in a kebab shop) chose Brian because not only did he look as though he would cultivate a mean petunia, he also resembled a small gnome.

I watched this footage, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] trumpeterofdoom, at a sparkly weekend with a selection of like-minded people. It is wonderful. So, naturally I had to make the icon as soon as I got home.

This was from a set I made using some rather splendid Victorian brushes that came with my Photoshop Creative magazine. I'd intended to do a serious set in sepia colours, but somehow, impertinent captions kept fitting themselves to the pics, so it ended up being quite a lot of fun. (The rest of the set is here, if you're interested.)

This one I got from one of the large 'help yourself' icon communities I look at occasionally. It's made by [livejournal.com profile] unikki_icons. It doesn't mean much to me (I did have a partial module on Tennyson when I took A-Level English, but I much preferred Browning), but I think it's very pretty.

Ah, back in my days as a Trekkie, I wrote quite a bit of fanfic. This was a drabble, and no, it's not precisely serious. Though Data was my first fannish love (if you don't count what in retrospect must have been a mild crush on the Jones of 'Alias Smith and Jones' when I was a teenager). There was a select band of Data-worshippers around for quite a while.

A chibi, created for me! The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] luxshine drew it. It's Lance, of course, in his orange shirt which was featured on the layout I was using at the time this was made. I had to have an icon from it, and it is useful at times to have a 'Hmm' icon.

Ahaha. Yes. Well. Back in March, [livejournal.com profile] nopseud and I organised Camp Sparkle, a get-together for UK and Euro-fans (we also had a token American, as [livejournal.com profile] ninjetti75 made it over). We rented a lovely cottage in Shropshire for the weekend and had a fabulous time.

Well. As a side-line of entertainment, we had an 'Add five words' story in progress. The book in which it was inscribed resided on the snacks trolley, which was a popular location even after all the pixy stix had been eaten. The story, inevitably, turned into total and utter crack. You may, if you are brave, read it here. Anyway, at one point a duck was introduced into the tale, and christened Pecker.

After which it was inevitable that I would make some Pecker icons.

Well, I mean. Lance's expression is so innocent+wicked here. This is one of a set of lava lamp icons I made in a moment of insanity inspiration. It's the only one which doesn't actually feature the lamp, but plainly the implication is there. If you have never read the original lava lamp story, from which all subsequent insanity goodness flows, you should... No, really. Of course, the best way is to have it read aloud in the wee small hours of the morning, after the consumption of a reasonable quantity of alcohol and by the light of a lava lamp. I think if it hadn't been for that experience (at my very first sparkly weekend!), the subsequent cult of lava lamp might never have taken hold. If you can't bear quite that much really, really bad writing, [livejournal.com profile] turps33 presented an abridged version *in pictures* here which is a thing of unalloyed joy. And "[livejournal.com profile] turloughishere has kept a list of lamp-related fics.

That was fun!

I have glee that so many of those icons sprung from amazing fannish gatherings.
