I just discovered that it is possible to bake a chocolate cake from a mix using Fanta instead of eggs and oil. And thus, to get a chocolate orange cake.

I am definitely going to try this!

Oh GOD it is so hot! Woe. But, we are due thunderstorms on, wait a sec, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday. And on Saturday, when we are supposed to be seeing a play at an outdoor venue, it will rain. Rapture.

This... actually about sums up my feelings on the subject. But it must be done!

I made a cake with blackberries and bits of peach today, so there may not be further baking until next week, but I shall report back.

I do hope you don't actually melt - that would be unfortunate.

can you take plastic sheeting or something to cover yourself for the outdoor play? if it doesn't rain, it could stay folded up in your bag but it might help keep you drier if the skies do open

Mercifully it has now cooled down a bit. I do not deal well with heat+humidity. Last night I had to have an extra spritz under the shower before bed. Also, there are small creatures eating me.

The weather forecast is fluctuating. We did not get the promised thunder today, and right now it is set to rain all day tomorrow, until it thunders in the evening. Hah. But Saturday is also showing thunder... we shall see. Yesterday, it showed rain. Who knows? Ooh, thunder on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I do not believe this, but it would make an exciting change.

I am a little bit disturbed by it, and now that I think on the matter, why not use orange juice instead? I should have thought it would contain as much oil equivalent as Fanta (ie none) and a much more authentically orange flavour.

Now I am going to have to try both. Sigh.

On first read, I was all, oh hell no about the Fanta cake, but on thinking about it, it could work.

I feel for everyone down south, it's been bad enough here where the temps have stuck around the mid-twenties for a while now.

We are down to the mid twenties now, much more civilised! It does seem we have been getting these 30+ temperatures quite often in recent years. I am sure Camp in Bath saw us trotting (strolling) around the hot yellow streets in 32 degrees!

It's unfortunate that I tend to eat too much when it is really hot—too much ice cream, that is. I cannot be bothered to make wholesome food, but a lolly is easy.

I gotta try the Fanta cake, really.

Just the thought of using Fanta for anything you're supposed to eat makes me feel a bit queasy. It has such an unnatural colour! And taste! And if it can replace both eggs and oil it really makes me wonder what's in it! (Also, if you still have to add eggs and oil what's the use of a cake mix?)

Ugh, seems all of Europe is having far too hot weather right now! Let's keep our fingers crossed it will get much cooler for all of us SOON!

Fanta at least has the virtue of not being as disgusting as Pepsi. I remember being a bit mizzed by the need to add oil and egg to the cake mix, mostly because it had never previously occurred to me to put oil in a cake. I mean, I guess it's perfectly logical, but I've always used butter or Stork.

My phone says it will rain ALL DAY tomorrow, and also thunder. *eyes it cynically* We shall see.

Never heard of Fanta cake, but I know you can make pancakes with Sprite/7Up. It must be the carbonation somehow, because otherwise they're just water and sugar.

I have made scones with lemonade (or Sprite/7-up), as long as it isn't the Diet version. You should try it! The carbonation supplies the raising agent.

We had about half an hour of solid thunder this morning, but frankly I have no idea what the weather will be like tomorrow. I think we'll decide about an hour before it's due to start whether we'll go or not!
