Make The Yuletide Gay

MTYG author reveal!

Two stories again this year.

My allocated recipient was [personal profile] nopseud. It had to happen eventually, I suppose… but it's intimidating writing for someone who produces such consistently wonderful stories herself, and alarming to be perforce without the services of my trusty regular MTYG beta.

The traditional pre-MTYG weekend was as much fun as usual, but in the nature of things a bit less useful for me than I could have hoped, given that we couldn't very well discuss my mission! Never mind. I came out of it certain that the story must contain a pig-worm (come to think of it, I probably knew that before the weekend).

And the first thing that really came to me was in porco, veritas. I had a bit of help from someone in a totally non-popslash-related environment who found me the correct Latin way of saying it, and I knew it was my title. Then the tiny magic slash piglet appeared and told me her name was Spangles (I don't know, either), and the story began to grow in fits and starts.

It couldn't really have been written for anyone else. I kinda grabbed handfuls of stuff at random (pink fairy armadillo, anyone?) and threw it in there. Most pleasingly, I remembered a comment she'd left on a pop macro I did ages ago, and knew that I wanted to include a GSF scene with Sphynkter-BSB with Howie in charge. Which turned out to be a lot of fun, heh.

It was actually harder writing Brian than I'd expected. He probably wasn't quite as much fun as he could have been. But I wanted to write something canon-based (it's set, loosely, towards the end of 2012 and early 2013), and that meant not writing out Leighanne or Lance's partner, hence Brian having repressed lustful thoughts which he wouldn't acknowledge without the help of a magical slash piglet. (It's MTYG! Magical slash piglets are perfectly normal!) And putting Brian and Lance into a succession of bizarre/sexy dreams was most enjoyable.

I should like to assure readers that no magical slash piglets were harmed during the making of this story. Or, at least, you are welcome to assume that Spangles is roasted and eaten—it's the sunglasses, right?—and perhaps there is a certain charm to such an ending, but I don't think it's an inevitable conclusion.

And thanks to [personal profile] ephemera for encouragement and reassurance, [personal profile] chalcopyrite for useful input in the early stages of trying to figure out what this story was about, and [livejournal.com profile] mickeym for beta and Americanising.

Anyway.

I ended up writing another story—I'd actually finished my original assignment well in advance, which left me twitchy and wondering what to do with myself in the days between writing and reveal—and as my second recipient, Erika, wanted an AU, I ended up back in the Sphynkter zone with Hair. That was also fun to write, particularly since I really didn't know what was going to happen, it just seemed like a cool thing to put Nick into his existence as a Sphynkter fan and see what he did. Nopseud did beta this, and pointed out that I hadn't originally written the Saturday concert, which for some reason resulted in the Nick being mistaken for Kaos stuff of which I am now very fond.

As several feedbackers (thank you!! *blows kisses*) pointed out, it's amazing nobody has done this before. Actually, has anybody done this before? In retrospect, it seems like a thing that must have occurred to other writers besides me.

So, inevitable SeSa angst at the beginning of the process, but I ended up enjoying writing both stories, and being pleased with how they turned out.

I can also thank GlitterDragon for writing my story, Heading West with an oblivious Lance going on his merry and very gay way, and Chris pining very much long-term and missing his chance at every possible opportunity except the last one, which was basically exactly what I asked for. *throws confetti*

It continues to astonish me that MTYG produces such wonderful stories every time—I think those of you who participated/read them will agree that there were some really super offerings. I think my favourite was All I Want For Christmas, partly because it is hilarious in every way, partly because I could just imagine her recipient's glee as he read it, and quite a lot because I was present at the theoretical birth of the turkipede and am *so* glad it—they—made it into the story.

Sounds like a stressful, but fun Yuletide for you writing-wise!

because I was present at the theoretical birth of the turkipede

What a beautiful sentence

Wow - mutant turkeys and magic pigs and fairy armadillos...are you sure you guys aren't trying to kick-start a farm animal micro-trend in popslash fic? (Okay, fine, armadillos aren't really farm animals, I don't think . But the question still stands!)

Hey, we were in the same boat this year! Our recipients were our betas! If you lived a bit closer we could've gotten together and cried about it over tequila and cake!

My feedback for the turkipede story was so over-the-top gush-y that I'm actually a little embarrassed by it, looking back. :)

OMG the story written for you? I wanted to POUND LANCE IN THE HEAD in the very first paragraph, and I NEVER want to do that. You are very fortunate. :)

Magical slash piglets. ♥ Their 'existence' pretty much sums up exactly why I love MtYG as much as I do!
