I should think that using your own experience of having heart surgery was incredibly useful in getting the Brian story to work. I did something of that sort myself, in an original fic, using my course of treatment for psoriasis as the setting for the story.

It's interesting how you and trumpeterofdoom have the same height thing. It's not something that's ever worried me one way or another, but I can see the desirability of avoiding a visual equivalent to the het standard. (I see a lot of complaints on fanficrants about writers who 'feminise' the shorter male in a pairing, simply because he's the shortest and "must" be the bottom!

Yeah, the individual characters involved *have* to make a difference to the bedroom dynamics, otherwise... well, otherwise they're not characters, I guess. I wonder whether we pick a pairing because we want to write a particular type of fic, or pick a pairing and find that's what comes out...
