Hot sweaty Justin, and other stuff
May. 31st, 2008 11:43 amSo. Beast and I went on a Retirement Course this week. !! I won't be drawing my state pension for nearly twenty years, so it all seemed very weird. Informative, although I now have a head stuffed with random financial facts, all of which are a bit irritating.
It was very strange to be sitting somewhere that was All Marrieds. There were a couple of chaps who were attending without their wives, and one lone divorcé who ended up being the brunt of quite a few jokes. It was quite weird. Down at the theatre there are at least people in a variety of partnered/partnerless states, and I suspect - I don't *know* 'cause it's none of my business - one or two who don't fit the standard heterosexual mode. But this was "married as norm" to the nth degree. Even though civil partnerships and not-married-to partners were mentioned with various of the pension provisions, it still felt quite weird. I'm too used to the variety and careful inclusiveness of fandom, now. It was also - or, it felt - incredibly selfish. Talking about all the ways to make sure we got every possible scrap of benefit we could, every penny of interest, made the most of the money resources we had. I know it makes sense, but...
Rehearsals are going quite well. There are a few of the smaller items which need a lot of polish, but at least the big chorus stuff, and the medium-sized groups, are well in hand.
And now, it is, I believe, Lambs Day.
