May. 14th, 2014 11:21 pmEarly Spring can be, and ought to be, beautiful for flowers—what could be more cheerful than a daffodil host?—but May is ravishing for trees. I ventured briefly out today and was filled with joy at the sight of the fresh green on the branches everywhere, the hawthorns covered in white, and the massive horse chestnuts groaning with candles. We have a splendid abundance of horse chestnuts here. Come summer, there'll be more colour at knee level, but right now the trees are perfect.
