Back! From Camp Sparkle!

Bath, it turns out, is a *great* place for a shared holiday. Our house was close enough to the city centre that 25 minutes walking along the riverside got us to the interesting bits; there was also a handy bus stop about fifty yards from the house for those occasions when walking didn't seem like the best option. (I did that on Afternoon Tea day as I wanted to wear my new sandals without risking my feet exploding.)

We had a miraculous Christmas Dinner on Sunday—miraculous because the oven thermostat would do On, or Off, but wouldn't stop heating when it reached the correct temperature. Cooking of turkey, two kinds of stuffing, braised red cabbage, parsnips, mince pies and a mincemeat tart, *all* of which turned out rather well, was an unnerving business. Potato and bread-and-herb dumplings and carrots were achieved on the stovetop. And after the miracle dinner, Secret Santa visited, the main highlights including an eviscerated unicorn in a jar, grits, and a collection of miniature Elvises.

There was visiting of Bath Stuff—eg the Abbey, the Kaffe Fassett exhibition of quilts, the Museum of Architecture—and purchasing of happy-making yarn, and generally enjoying being in such a lovely place. Also a visit to Longleat where my carload enjoyed close encounters with a cheetah and a wolf, and very close encounters with greedy deer (one of which left deer spit all over the window).

And Camp, with random conversations, and games of Pixit and CAH, and a selection of interesting meals, and actually Too.Much.Sugar, is always a good time.

When we got home, there was a dead squirrel in the library.
