Jul. 20th, 2018 03:25 pmI was offered Sable-tummy to stroke today! This is very exciting. And *ssssooooo* soft.

Beast is doing Stuff to the outside of the lounge window (it needs repainting). As a proper cat, Fluffy had to investigate at once. Sable stayed at a safe distance.

Excellent sing last night, we just sang throughout the evening, sometimes with our eyes closed and doing "oh" instead of the words. Aside from my objections to "oh" as a vowel to sing, it was a really interesting experience—you really, really listen to the harmonies that way. We have a singout on Sunday afternoon in the open air.
And Beast went to his first chorus rehearsal on Wednesday. He seems to have been made very welcome, and to have enjoyed himself, so I hope he'll be able to join in a few weeks.

The air conditioning at the gym is not working. It is to be replaced, sometime this month. This comes, I think, into the category of High Time. Plainly they stretched out a not-very-good system for as long as possible, and it didn't last quite long enough. In the meantime, they have provided a meagre number of fans and some of those cooling units that make the air wetter (thanks, no, really, more humidity is exactly what we need), but the Step class on Wednesday and this morning's Double Trouble were Just. So. Hot. In fact, I end up dripping with sweat in the yoga class, too. Not impressed.

Some links I have enjoyed recently:
A feminist analysis of Die Hard, unexpectedly convincing.
A thing about why Americans apparently pay way more compliments than other people do. It reminds me of the way Americans (apparently) expect 5/5 on surveys because anything less than Excellent simply won't do—unrealistic. But that's cultural differences for you.
Another interesting article, this time saying the reason why men and women can't be friends is that men don't know how. Well, that's not exactly what it says, but that's what it means. Women are capable of believing they have platonic friendships with men, men… not so much the reverse.
Adorable and unusual greeting cards. With zombies and really cute dragons.
And Penguins of the month. This is awesome. Go Flip!
