My cats have had an interesting day
Apr. 30th, 2020 10:51 pmBeast and I were getting ready to do our yoga this morning when I spotted a black cat sitting under one of the shrubs in the back garden, and realised that it was staring at a quite large white and brown cat which was sitting calmly next to the lilac. Was that my Sable… or not? If so, she was being remarkably cool. The two cats stared at one another. Then, they began to stare sideways towards another bush…
… from which, with great caution, emerged Fluffy. She stepped v-e-rrrr-y s-l-o-w-l-y round, keeping her eyes on both other cats, until they were sitting in a neat triangle. Then, she moved gradually closer to the house….
…and Sable emerged from under the same bush. Sable was less cautious about things, she trotted towards the sanctuary of the house.
The two interlopers broke off in different directions. Fluffy, emboldened, followed the large brown and white one into the hedge, at speed. The skinny black cat (which has been a not infrequent visitor) ventured cautiously into the hedge in their wake, and Sable, even more cautiously, followed it into the darkness.
We stared at the hedge for some time. It is very difficult to see a black cat in shadow. But eventually, one bit of shadow turned back into Sable… After a while longer, I went out and called for my Fluffy. Nuffink. But she emerged from the hedge unscathed a few minutes later.
What happened to the large white and brown cat, I do not know, but later this afternoon I saw the skinny black cat prowling about (with Fluffy watching indignantly from the lounge window). And then, this evening, we had not only the skinny black cat, but also an unprecedented black and white cat: they complained at one another for several minutes then loped off round the corner together.
I mean. Why has our garden suddenly become Cat Central?
