don't blame it on the moonlight
Oct. 24th, 2022 11:04 pmRejoice with me, for at last I have a functioning computer!
Well, that's a bit mean to the sturdy laptop that kept me online and able to post/check email, while we waited hopefully for an Apple Event to announce a new, superspecced Mac Mini. There was no such event, so we packed up the failing Mini and took it to the Apple store yesterday. Came home with a handsome Mac Studio, discounted by the price of the previous repair, which was nice. Beast says half a terabyte of memory is iffy, but it sounds like quite a lot to me.
Thursday was a... day. On the way to my uncle's funeral in Bedford, we got the news of Liz Truss's resignation. \o/ Then, there was the funeral. Which, as funerals tend to do, taught me some things I had not known about the deceased. It was nice to see his kids again, particularly L, who has been living on the other side of the world. We managed a couple of cuppas at the wake, but just as they were bringing out the actual food, we had to leave, as it was my chorus' Dress Rehearsal. I had wisely provided us with a sandwich to share, so we did.
On the way home, considerable tension was added by a WhatsApp conversation about the men's chorus having a Covid scare, and the immediate suggestion that this meant the mixed chorus should not perform at Friday's concert. As we (both officers in said mixed chorus) were discussing it with the other officers, we were all fairly indignant. Our MD offered to produce a 'segregated stack' rather than the normal, mingled one. We were already somewhat indignant at having been told what our chorus must wear, rather than consulted on the subject!
I got to the dress rehearsal in time to get dressed in my sparklies, and it went well. We are, I think, singing very nicely these days.
Friday evening saw us at the Concert. There was precious little sign of anyone trying to avoid members of the opposite-sex chorus (which is difficult for me since I share a bed with one of them). However, the large church (this one: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50374122448_5dd69e2253_b.jpg) held a good number of people—at a guess, around 200, which is a fine audience for us. It was a charity event, and raised over £1,800, so we did well. All the choruses were in excellent voice, and sparkling nicely. We did sing in a segregated stack, but we did a splendid job anyway. It's odd hearing the women's chorus after the added depth (and volume) of a mixed chorus.
Saturday, we trotted up to the surgery for our flu jabs. Today, I trotted up to the pharmacy for my Covid booster, so that's done. Oddly, the flu jab hurt but I felt not the slightest effects from it, whereas I actually didn't feel the Covid jab but my arm is already somewhat sore.
And my Yuletide assignment looks entirely doable, once I can decide which of the tempting alternatives I am most able to write. \o/\o/
