MTYG, selection one

pensnestI seem to be making a good start on that 'post more' thing. I have now read *all* the MTYG stories, and here's a partial view. I'll try and do at least one more selection before the reveal.
It's My Kind Of MTYG this year, with a whopping NINE Trickyfish stories, woot! I'm not going to attempt to guess at authors, basically because as an MTYG Admin I did a bit of previewing, and could look them up if I wanted to cheat.
First, the AUs:
Christmas Light in the Darks is a vampire story with Lance and Chris teaming up to save a couple of innocents who aren't quite as helpless as the vampires think they are. I felt as though I was reading this story extra-fast, it has a sort of breathless quality to it. Exciting stuff.
In total contrast, If You Can't Stand The Heat (Stay Out Of The Kitchen) is a high school AU with Lance as the cautious, suspicious new boy who doesn't want to draw attention, and Chris as the irrepressible character who can't leave him alone. I really liked the shape of this story, and the characterisations, particularly of Lance.
Wings would be cool is another HS AU, and arguably not so much Trickyfish as Howie/Nick. Nick and Lance are students, and their partners are apprenticing as angel and demon. I have to admit, I am very taken with the idea of Chris with a pitchfork.
Take You For A Trip All Around The World is another real-world AU, with Lance as the kid with big ambitions, and Chris the laid-back partner who wants him to slow down and enjoy the now. And, particularly, to enjoy the fireworks—and we all know Lance loves fireworks!
Then, the canon-based:
White Christmas isn't strictly Trickyfish either, because (woot!) they add Nick Carter to the mix (I assume he was half of the recipient's crossover pairing). This is never a bad thing. It's a rather sweet domestic story of Chris setting up a 'perfect' Christmas for his boyfriends.
In Water in the Basement we have long-term pining Trickyfish, which is one of my favourite things ever. It's a truly long-term pine, from the early days of Nsync to nowadays, with both of them failing to communicate.
Actually, the long-term pining thing is a theme in Same Song, Next Verse too, another story which left me with a big smile on my face. This one is also spread over several years, with a lovely, snarky payoff on Chris's birthday.
And then there's mine (mine! mine!): The Kirkpatrick Guide to Aging Gracefully, in which Chris is turning forty, and horribly aware of it, and also of his long-term pining (oh, yes!) which needs to be repressed and over. And it has Chris's birthday with the four of them turning up in his house, and I just—I love it. Absolutely love it.
Fortunately for us all, MTYG stories are gifts we can share.
