A new community
Nov. 18th, 2005 08:18 amLet me urge all of you (or at any rate, those who have not already done so) to scurry along and join
riters_r_us, a community to help with those sticky little queries about the use of language. For example, there's a mighty big post on Homonymns, and several of the pairs have been explained already. The community comes from the Buffy/Angel arena, and is intended to help with fanfic difficulties - Americanisms, British English, that kind of thing - as well as general use-of-language.
Not, you understand, that I imagine anyone who has friended Me to be unable to tell the difference between bear and bare, or (shudder) its and it's. You can be on the side of the angels instead, and offer easy-to-use explanations of those little awkwardnesses that plague us. I have already contributed my mite by pointing out that 'discrete' and 'discreet' are quite different words, with (ahem!) discrete meanings.
Seriously. It's worth doing.
