pensnest: mug of chocolate and tasty treats (Christmas Yulefreshments)

When I wandered into Jarrolds, Nsync were wishing me a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, which was nice.

*

We went to the post office yesterday to send a few small parcels and a bunch of cards abroad.
Yikes.

Might not be doing that next year.

*

Argh. Beast is working on his new chorus song, listening to the teach track and singing along. Over and over and over.

*

Can anyone think of some cheerful and widely known Christmas songs? I have a few in mind, but they're ones my chorus has already had and has discarded. We need a cheerful number to counteract In the Bleak Midwinter, I'll Be Home for Christmas, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

That was a good song to be greeted with.

The cost of postage is horrendous :(

Excellent musical taste, Jarrods!

International postage has become ridiculously expensive!

I don't know how well-know they are these days but I think both "Deck the Halls" and "Ding, Dong, Merrily On High" are quite cheerful.

Funny you should ask that! I made a list of jolly Christmas songs a while back as I'm fed up with dreary ones.

How about: Rockin Around the Christmas Tree
Jingle Bell Rock
Holly Jolly Christmas
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
Winter Wonderland

Oh a vision of you doing a tap number! 😜

And if you want carols, jolly ones I've noticed are:
The Sussex Carol, I love that one.
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
In Dulce Jubilo, there is a very jolly version of that by Mike Oldfield. Although it's an instrumental, you can dance to it, very fun. We often dance round our lounge to this at Christmas!
We Saw Three Ships.
Ding Dong Merrily on High.
Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

I used to be in a choir at school, I still remember most of the words to these and where to breathe🩷

I went to post a card to Finland and then bought 2 books of first-class stamps because I have used the last one of the lot I bought about three years ago and shit I was not expecting that to be £30.

Wind band does:
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth (though we don't have to involve the words or lisp so it is probably easier to play than sing)
Calypso carol
The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy
Rockin Around the Christmas Tree
Here comes Santa Claus
Santa Baby
Frosty the Snowman
Rudolf
Winter Wonderland
Rootin' Tootin' Christmas (don't know if that has words)
Jingle Bell Rock

I prefer the more traditional ones but our leader doesn't.

There are several excellent suggestions above, and also:
"The Boar's Head" carol
There are also a bunch of Wassail songs more or less about the generous hoped-for food from lords to peasants, but whether they're cheerful is kind of variable.

That reminds me we did a version of While Shepherds Watched in a folk choir I sang in. Having found it on youtube, it turns out it's a tune from West Somerset. I sang in a different choir run by Yvette to this one and I remember it going a bit faster.

I love the version of 'While Shepards Watched' to the tune of Ilkley Moor. (Ironically, the carol version is actually the older of the two!)

Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Always upbeat.

Oh Come all ye Faithful has an easy to join in chorus.
