pensnest: Justin gurning in close up (Justin Timberlake god of sex)
I've watched a couple of films lately (Beast's Apple TV subscription, free with new iPhone, has been extended, which I assume means they are struggling to find viewers).

The first was Wolf Walkers, which someone on my Reading list mentioned just a few days ago and which looked appealing. Well, it was. It's animated, in a very lovely style that doesn't attempt to create realistic-looking people, though they have lovely characterisation all the same. The backgrounds are more detailed, and beautiful, particularly in the woods, and there's an interesting presentation of landscape.

The chief characters in the story are children, and what I think I liked most about it was that they are not superhero children. They're brave and good, but also—children! They need help to get things done. I approve of this. And, they make mistakes. I got very involved in them, and in the story as a whole. I recommend it.

The other was Palmer, newly out with Justin Timberlake as the taciturn ex-con returned to small Southern town who eventually—he takes his time about it—befriends a little boy who wants to be a flying princess.

Beast and I watch something as we have our lunch and our tea, and we broke after lunch *just* as Palmer has begun not to be the gruff macho man par excellence, so I wasn't very impressed at that point, but in the second half of the film it gets more interesting. Frankly, Timberlake with a Man of the Woods beard is not entirely my cup of tea. But, in fairness, I think he does it well. Aside from a couple of incidences of Oh my God I do not need to see Justin Timberlake having sex (again!) I was watching "Palmer", not JT. And the kid is adorable. Very well scripted, too. I really like the kid.

So slightly to my surprise, I'd recommend this one, too.

It snowed.

Okay, it's winter. But still, snow of any kind of significance is not very common hereabouts. Yesterday's snow was a bit pathetic, such tiny, fine flakes that it just looked as though there was a gauze film on the outside of the windows, and the grass didn't really get covered.

This morning, though, there were some serious flakes. My phone assured me at about 0930 that the snow would stop in 9 minutes. Ten minutes later, it said the snow would stop in 10 minutes. By the time we got to the hour it had given up prophesying such nonsense, and indeed, it snowed until it was nearly dark. We have quite a respectable covering now, and in some parts of East Anglia there's about a foot of the stuff.

Aldi, as a result, was practically empty (of fresh fruit and veg as well as customers). We wouldn't have gone anywhere on our own behalf, but FIL was fretting that he would run out of All The Things, though his shopping actually fat into a single bag this week. Eh.
