peace and quiet and open air

There were two very discombobulated blue tits at the feeders yesterday. They found the seed feeder empty and went straight to the fat balls, and were apparently astonished to find that empty also. (I blame the squirrel.) There was an outraged conversation between them along the lines of There's no food!/Where is the food??!!/There's supposed to be food here!/What has happened?

They came back later and were satisfied.

Today, there has been a quail in the garden. It has about as much brain as any game bird, but luckily the cat was being lazy today.

There was also, I'm fairly sure, a nuthatch visiting the seed feeder. Pretty little bird.

Two of my pumpkin seeds have sprouted! Sturdy little seedlings, good for them! This is encouraging.

We watched the new 'West Side Story' last night. The music is *so* brilliant. Much of it was excellent, including the colours of the film. I liked the inclusion of 'Valentina' a lot, but I'm not convinced the choice to have her sing "There's a Place for Us" was the best way to wring out All The Emotion. At that point, we have to be desperate for Maria and Tony to make it. Still. Lovely film.
