The world is still white, and likely to remain so. It's going to be -5C tonight, which has not happened for a *very* long time, and our heat pump is working hard! And the house is pleasantly warm. Sable has taken to sleeping on the beanbag in Beast's study, with her head next to the radiator. I have thoughtfully provided her with a fleece-lined sleeping sack, but she has spurned it. Sigh.

Do cats sleep on things intended for cats unless there's another cat to chase off the thing?

Fair point! When we had Princess Fluffykins as well, the two would compete for the filled hoop on the cat tree, and sometimes even share it. These days, Sable has not been in it for I dunno how long.

My cats are hugging the radiators too, and both sleeping with us under the quilt at night.

I figure Sable feels the cold less than most cats (or people) due to having about twice as much fur per square inch as any other cat anywhere! But she does approve of the warm.

Would you like the sleep sack for your cats? I can see that Sable is not interested, but if yours like sleeping in bed they might enjoy a fleecy bag!

Oh we had exactly that weather! Then today at about 1 or 2pm, it suddenly warmed up, all the snow melted and I can sit here not freezing to death. Very sudden.

The forecast says it's going to be around freezing, day and night, for about a week! Outrageous. This is England, dammit.

It was so weird yesterday. In the morning it was freezing, -7C at 8am. It snowed a little. Then suddenly around 1 or 2pm, I felt warmer and noticed the snow had all melted and it was mild again. REALLY sudden.

I remember these really sudden changes happening in the last few years. One year it was 0C on Friday, and 10C on Saturday. Climate change I suppose?

It's the hopping about of the temperature that is the most baffling thing, isn't it! A regular, constant cold snap is one thing, but the forecast on my phone shows definite bounciness, and is weird. I'm happy, on the whole, that the snow is reducing (at the moment), but dread it freezing once there is water all over everywhere.

It is! I was wrapped up warm yesterday, now I'm too hot. It's hard to know what to wear.

I'm glad to hear your house is still warm despite your unusual cold. I feel for poor Sable! Lancecat also loved napping in his basket by the radiator in winter.

I think there are two sorts of cats, one who LOVE burrowing under things to sleep and one who hates being covered. Lancecat was definitely in the second category and it sounds like Sable is too. I had a friend whose cat used to nap underneath the bedspread cosied up to her pillow.

I think you're right, and Sable is an Uncovered Cat. I am charmed by the idea of a cat snuggling up on the pillow, but I think Beast would be unimpressed. In any case, she is mostly kept out of the bedroom because we bear a grudge for the rage-weeing that happened rather a long time ago! Though I would welcome her investigating me in the mornings, before coffee. But she is too fixated on getting her breakfast at that time of day anyway.
