Aug. 28th, 2023 08:52 amExcellent interview on this morning's Today programme (Radio 4) with the Danish art dealer who exposed the 'stuff from British Museum being sold on eBay' scandal. I am not surprised that a Dane is so perfectly fluent in English (I know several Scandinavians+Finns who are), but he managed to throw delightful shade, in the most innocent-sounding way, at the Director and Deputy Director of the BM. "If I had trusted the leadership of the British Museum nothing would have been done" or something like it. Heh! Does the DD have 'abnormal duties or paranormal duties' from which he has not stepped back? Applause for that man. It's so nice to hear an interview with a not-politician, someone who can say what he thinks, and does.

Nice quiet weekend, much progress on the knitting, but we also spent a good deal of time shredding branches. It is amazing what a small pile of shreddings a large pile of branches can make. There are beginning to be fallen leaves on the grass now....

I now have a whole freezer drawer full of blackberries, either frozen whole or frozen slightly stewed. We picked *double* the usual quantity at our last picking, but I assume that will be the peak of the ripening season. Am contemplating swimming today, in the hope of getting some of the purple out of my fingernails.

turps sent me a delightful and unexpected little parcel a couple of days ago—her husband is a wood-turner and we talked, during Camp, about the possibility of making knitting bowls. Well, he has sent me his very first one, and it is most satisfactory! My existing bowl has a 'hockey stick' shape in it rather than a spiral, but James' spiral is definitely an improvement, and holds the yarn really well. Definitely a win!
* The children came round for lunch today, and afterward we played a couple of rounds of a neat little route-maker game whose name I cannot remember. Very pleasant.
