Church, twice in one weekend.

I went to a Choral Workshop on Saturday. It was lovely. There were around a hundred of us, in a large local church, with Peter Skellern* running the show. And he was a sweetheart—firm about getting the music *right*, and funny, and so sincere about how the music made him feel and should make us feel. Also, he writes absolutely beautiful sacred music, and the altos get really interesting lines to sing. If I'd driven myself there I'd probably have skipped the Evensong at the end of the day, but it was okay.
Also at the weekend went to the Abbey for a performance of a newly-commissioned work about Saint Alban. Two churches in one weekend, which is two more than I usually see the inside of. The work left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, the performances were excellent and the emotions of the piece came across very well; on the other, I thought the words were mostly banal, and I like *tunes*, which the music did not have. I couldn't hum anything at all from it, which I think is a shame. That's modern opera for you, I suppose, but I don't see why being modern means you cannot have melody. Still, an interesting experience.
Missed two nice sunny opportunities to have Beast take photos of my leg, for the edification of those of you who'd like to see My Tattoo. Heh - I'm already thinking about having it expanded. As I was sitting in the tattoo parlour I realised why people get themselves so thoroughly decorated - so many fabulous little bits of art. Also, I cannot be the only person who found the receiving of a tattoo an oddly sexual experience. Possibly it was the vibrations.
* Elderly folk such as myself may remember him for "You're a Lady", or for the comedy tours he used to do with Richard Stilgoe. I have added my mite to the pleas for him to release a few more songs into general use.

That sums it up so well.
A picture of your tattoo is a must! :)
