A community thought

I wonder if there would be any interest in a DW community in which people can ask for fic recs?

- you might be in the mood for something from a specific fandom
- you might want a particular button pressed
- or, something else?

My idea is that if so, you could post asking for recs along whatever lines you happen to be looking for, and hope for the best. Not the same thing as a fic-finder comm in which you want to find that particular story you just can't identify, but a more general itch-scratch. Not the same thing as a story request comm, either - though I personally wouldn't mind if readers used the requests as inspiration to write new fic.

If there is already such a comm, please tell me!

If not, do you think there should be one?

If so, should it be called ijuswannareadthis or itch_scratching? (Or, not?)

Also, if you can see Horrible Pitfalls Ahead for the foolhardy soul who decides to start up such a comm, what would these be?

kink_finders works that way, and "kink" is very broadly defined there. It's not for "Rec me good stories in Fandom A," but if you have something you want featured, that's your place. :)

Aha! Very interesting. I think the 'kink' in the name would have put me off, but it does look like just what I'm looking for. Splendid.

yep - kink_finders is the place to go: per the profile, This is a multi-fandom fic-finder community to help you find fics that match a kink you might have -- for a broad definition of "kink" meaning "anything that presses your buttons and gets you excited". That might be something that fits the traditional meaning of kink, or a narrative technique, or a type of character, or whatever.

all sorts of queries are posted, and many don't involve actual kinks

Hm, I'm all for more comms on DW in general, just because. I feel like there's definitely space for more to grow here. As far as what type of community, I don't know...I'm kind of a one trick pony when it comes to fandom, so if you were to make it a bit more fandom specific I would completely support it. That being said, I really don't know what's out there as far as non-fandom specific comms, so I'm probably not much help. lol
