Nov. 1st, 2011 10:56 pmWell. I managed not to post yesterday about receiving a very timely and handsome Happy Halloween card, so thank you
topaz119.
It's funny, I have mixed feelings about Halloween—I love it as an excuse for costumes and carved pumpkins, and though I seldom do these things myself, I like to see what other people come up with. However, now that my children are no longer of an age to do it, I've definitely gone off trick-or-treating. I think we managed to import the American custom without the rules, and it risks ending up as 'Gimme stuff or I'll egg your house'.
I prefer the Scottish custom of 'guising', where the kids must earn their treats. Heh—I do this with carol singers, too. Random children who turn up on my doorstep and mumble a couple of lines of We wish you a Merry Christmas and hold out their hands are required to sing an actual carol before I dispense the cash.
Oddly, they do not return. And yet, there must be *some* children around who can sing.
And finally,

I'm kinda taken with this. I think it must be the eyeliner. I hope it's not the fact that he looks like a stubbly kid...
