I quite seriously find myself contemplating signing up for the Kradam Holiday Exchange. It would totally not impinge on MTYG. (Well, unless I'm in Australia, which will be awkward all round, no doubt.) I'm pretty sure I could write a decent story, even though I have no clue who the other writers in the fandom are (mostly), and I'd probably enjoy a nice little AU. Um. Mostly, I'd like to be part of something *active*, dammit. And yet... my LJ flist is a morass of triplicated posts about the latest chapters in a variety of stories I have no desire to read, and a thousand subtly different versions of Adam in performance during his tour, which I can seldom be bothered to watch.

Well. I'll dither for a bit longer, I think.

Meanwhile, what? I've been spending a lot of time this week making fabulous cards (truly! *fabulous* cards) and listening to Dorothy L Sayers as read by Ian Carmichael, since I liberated from my Father-in-Law a functioning radio cassette player. I have many audio books on cassette, and the previous machine which was kept in the conservatory gave up the ghost a long while ago. Annoyingly, I don't seem to have Gaudy Night, and where Busman's Honeymoon has got to I do not know. Also, DLS is *horrifically* patronising to her working class characters and any female not educated at Oxford, which gets wearisome.

I had my retinal scan last Wednesday, which mostly meant sitting in a hospital corridor playing Klondike on my iPhone with my eyes watering, as the medic in charge kindly bunged painful stuff in my eyes shortly after I arrived. Gah. Also, painted a mug of "Del Boy". The disadvantage of accepting occasional commissions is that I can't be sure I'll enjoy them—although Zac Efron was quite cute, and Muhammed Ali turned out very well. I think.

Went to the post office today. As it is a Bank Holiday, this was a bit pointless.

Our Carmen rehearsals are at an end—it was a lot of fun to sing, and we did surprisingly well, making a pleasing although not entirely accurate noise most of the time. Sight reading some of the bits we'd never got to at the last rehearsal was... a considerable challenge. From this week, it's Panto Time! (Oh, no it isn't. Not for me, anyway, as I don't Do panto.)

So much yes, DLS was a horrible snob about education. I try to skip over those bits when I re-read the stories but they do make me wince quite a lot.

One of the drawbacks when listening to stories is that you experience every word! It's quite sad how misogynist DLS was, really.

Good fic, and maybe a bit more meta. I dunno. My DW reading list is mostly 'people who seem to be interesting' rather than necessarily 'people I share(d) a fandom with' and it's completely different in character.

I sorta find it easier to excuse the racism and anti-Semitism because it feels so 'period'. And there are very few non-white or Jewish people actually featured in the stories. Her misogyny and her attitude to 'ordinary people', though! And yet, yes, still worth reading. I'm pretty familiar with the books now, and as I listen I notice little clues and motifs put in so neatly that all tie together. And 'Murder Must Advertise' is such a great picture of an ad agency.

I considered the Kradam Holiday exchange too! But I signed up for the Criminal Minds exchange and I might do Yuletide again, so I backed away from the idea. When do sign-ups close? Maybe if you do it I will do it. /lemming

I have a lovely time wading through my paper scraps and bits of lace and smidgins of dappled plastic and my sundry stickers. Sitting creating something is good for the soul!

The worst part of exchange challenges is wondering who the recipient will be, and aside from a few authors whose stories I always try to catch, I don't really know anyone. I spose the thing to do is stalk their journal once you've been given a name. And 1,000 words is not much to ask.

And fanwork is due on November 15th, which you are right shouldn't overlap with MTYG or Yuletide too much.

Let me know what you decide! We probably wouldn't get each other, but it would be fun to have a buddy to complain to (And possibly beta for. *g*)

I'm in the process of filling out the form *facepalm* Is it strange that I'm not as much worried about writing for someone else as I am getting something I can't legitimately praise?

And definitely, once you get the recipient some judicious stalking of their journal might be in order.

Unlikely to be for Christmas—all else aside it's probably a bad time to be buying a house! We're planning to go out there to help FIL find himself somewhere to live, get to know the area, and so forth. But if we can arrange a stopover in your neck of the woods I shall let you know at once!

I know just how you feel! Fortunately all my SeSa stories so far, except for the very first one, have been really enjoyable. The trick is to go, Yay, pairing! in a more sophisticated way, if you can't find anything much to say about the story itself.

I'm edging towards signing up. Of course, life is complicated by not knowing which continent I'll be on at what point, but it should be doable.
