Dec. 23rd, 2012 09:29 pmThank you to
turps and
chalcopyrite for the cards!
My Brats got home yesterday—how very handy it is that one, at least, can drive. Bun came to the gym with us this morning and even joined the Body Balance class, which she managed very well. We baked cookies this afternoon. How very American that sounds! In fact, yes, the recipes were American ones found online, and I still don't think measuring butter in 'cups' is even slightly practical. However, caramel apple cookies have been baked, iced and partially consumed, and there are some cinnamon rolls to be continued. They are much better than any mince pies that weren't baked by my grandmother, whose pastry was ambrosial.
The writing meme I spotted somewhere...
sperrywink's journal, I think.
December Obviously the SeSa story reveal doesn't happen until January, so I can't talk about the current year's story in one of these round-ups. I shall count last year's SeSa as part of this year's fic. I wrote Wings would be Cool, in which Nick has a guardian angel called Howie, and Lance has a guardian demon called Chris. (Around 10,000 words.)
There was also Fairy Tale, which was sent out in pieces on postcards. (just over 1,000 words) I think this one had a certain amount of holiday overlap, which is why it seems to belong here.
January
Cake - in last year's SeSa, one of the authors somehow managed to write the wrong pairing, and I hurriedly wrote a story in case there needed to be a pinch-hit in a hurry. Well, it wasn't necessary, but I'm quite fond of this little story anyway. (3,000+ words))
Oh, the Places You'll Go - written as an MTYG Hero's reward, on the subject of Favourite Books. (580 words)
Ribbons, bows and beads An Adam/Lance story which probably fits into the Bouquet timeline. (over 1,000 words)
February
just because, for the anti-Valentine's Day challenge (Justin/Nick) (1,000 words)
Sparrowhawk and Beeswax, An Adam Lambert/OMC Regency story (featuring Christopher Allen) written for the SoHotOutTheBed challenge, of which I'm rather proud. (13,000 words)
March
April
Crossed Paths (The Oddly Glitchy Interface remix) my remix of a story by Aeiouna, involving Brian and Howie *in space!*. I've always meant to do an *in space* remix. (almost 2,000 words)
May
Some multiple of five words…
Wanna Tell Me About It (33,000+ words) Adam Lambert/Lance Bass AU in which Lance used to be on a TV show called Synchronicity, and is now a TV producer, and Adam is an actor looking for a job. Written for the Cockbertbigbang.
June
July
August
September
October
Hooked on the sensation - continuation of my vampire!Lance Trickyfish series. (1,600+ words)
November
So, a respectable overall word count, basically due to the mighty story in the middle of the year which seemed to drain out all my creativity (or maybe that was down to Sweeney Todd).
Leitmotif(s) of the year:
I don't know if these stories have anything much in common, let alone any leitmotif!
My best story of this year:
Don't know.
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
Probably 'Cake', which just seems to work so well. It was one of those happy stories that just flows out, and I almost always love the stories that just want to write themselves.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
Wanna Tell Me About It.
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Sparrowhawk and Beeswax. I'm really pleased with it, and the universe should send me more feedback!
Story that could have been better?
Wanna Tell Me About It. I mean, I love this set-up, I'm really happy with the show and the characters and how everything works, but much to my annoyance I realised not long after I'd finished it that it wasn't actually finished at all. And the structure goes to pieces at the end. It's on my list for revision and extension next year.
Most fun story to write:
Oh, the Places You'll Go, because Dr Seuss!
Sexiest story?
Sparrowhawk and Beeswax. The challenge was to write a story where the main characters could not go to bed together, but had to get naughty elsewhere. This was fun.
Hardest story to write:
Hooked on the sensation. I knew what I wanted to write, but getting it written was really difficult. I couldn't even figure out which POV to use for ages, and wrote half of it in the wrong one.
Easiest story to write?
Oh the Places You'll Go.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
DW and LJ. MTYG website. My own website. AO3 (most of them).
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to:
Oh, don't even ask. It depresses me. So much time, so few readers.
