I've just been reading some of the latest 'Dear Abby' posts. I find my own answer to these queries is, more often than not, DON'T BE SO BLOODY STUPID! I admit this would not make me a helpful Agony Aunt, but, seriously, people? Seriously? (And sometimes the DBSBS is directed at Dear Abby, because No.

On a much more positive note, I just found a Terry Pratchett story I don't think I'd read before: Theatre of Cruelty. The scene involving DEATH is among the Best Things Ever.

Mostly when I read Dear Abby I want to tell the writers, "Why did you write Dear Abby? Go write [list of people who actually give good advice instead]."

And I want Abby to respond to the actual problem, not what the sentence with the question mark is. Like, "Here is a clearly abusive situation with tons of gaslighting and emotional abuse. We had an argument about what is the right way to put the toilet paper on the toilet paper roll, who is right?" and Abby talks about toilet paper.

There was one amazing letter, though, where she told the LW they were a horibble person. I think now I just read to see if she's going to lose her shit again.

Re-reading Rivers of London last month reminded me just how very *odd* Punch and Judy is when you look at it from outside the tradition.
