pensnestWe had our first dunking yesterday. Yes, the swimming pool got put into use, after weeks of anxious tending, chlorinating, refilling, backwashing, more refilling, etc.
I had a few people round for lunch (we have *lots* of leftovers) and this extended into a tour of the garden and a strong suggestion that swimming would be good. Well, one guest arrived in a wetsuit, so we sent him in first to extract the boulders. Then there was a general urge water-wards, I think about half of us got into our swimwear and splashed about, and it was very agreeable indeed. So agreeable that we—Beast and I and my sister—have just had another dunk. Twenty-eight degrees. Mmmmmm!
So, hmm. Not sure whether we shall keep the pool or exchange it for a vegetable plot! But it has made a good case over the last couple of days.

I have found out that Lion Wood (which is just over the road and across the park) was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, so it is just possible that there was a Very Large Cat in there at some point and it earned its name honestly.
