Of multicoloured things.
Jul. 29th, 2018 09:54 pmI went into the city yesterday because it was Norwich Pride (10th anniversary). Mercifully the extreme heat had abated, leaving us with a bright, sunny day in the mid twenties, and a nice breeze.
There were lots of stalls in and around the Forum area, so I had my face englittered, bought a rainbow fan and a badge, and picked up a leaflet for the Green Party. Pootled off to try a new coffee place (Little Red Roaster, who do a nice iced latte, it turns out), then met Beast and went to the shop that takes Amazon returns. There was time to prowl around a couple of art galleries at the St Giles end of town before coming back to the parade—I continue to find things of interest every time I go into the local co-operative gallery/shop—and stationing ourselves in an excellent spot by the city hall, just right to see the beginning of the parade.
Usual sort of thing (I suppose—I haven't been for a couple of years so I don't really remember): rainbow flag flying above the castle, fire engine to lead the way, policemen with rainbow epaulettes. A totally fabulous woman in the vanguard, in sage green jumpsuit, short brown jacket, with a terrific necklace and really cool red hair. Anyway, the parade began, and was obviously being enjoyed by all. Someone from Aviva gave me a handy rainbow face-paints packet, which stripes six colours at once. There was a troupe of dancing ballerina angels, there was a Canary mascot who must have been very warm despite his shorts, and several much appreciated young men in boots and snug-fitting black shorts (or swimwear? or possibly undercrackers?). There were lots of people. It was a lovely atmosphere.
And…

There were *lots* of participants, and everyone was very cheerful (except perhaps for the Angry Bird and the man in the tiger suit, who must have been ready to melt). After a while, we decided to sneak off so went to the Waffle House for lunch. As we ate, we could see people passing by sporting rainbow capes, unicorn horns, and so forth. Lovely.

Today was Fibre East, the yarn marketplace I like to attend. I had two companions from my Knit & Natter group, which made it extra fun—and also has the virtue of allowing me to buy yarn vicariously, ie if they bought stuff, I felt less need to! Also, I fell in love with a yarn calling itself 'Tangerine' at an early stage in the proceedings—it's merino, silk and yak—and this inoculated me against the lures of many other enticing yarns. I did, however, buy a couple of sets of beautiful buttons, and a peg loom as well as the Tangerine, and made note of some really cute hat patterns and a fab asymmetric shawl.
It's probably time to start using up the yarn I bought there last year…
