Somebody—some genius—has created a fake book jacket for David [hack! spit!] Cameron's memoirs. It gets, for instance, a quote from Donald Trump. “A very great book. So great. No, it’s a great book. All the words. All the pages.” Also… “Women wanted him. Men wanted to be him. Animals feared him,” which is utter brilliance.
Further in, the article describes how booksellers can protest, discreetly, about some of the books they sell. 'Told to stock Cameron’s autobiography in the front window, Waterstones Piccadilly had its own, quiet response, propping Cameron up on a pile of Posh Boys: How the English Public Schools Ruin Britain, Heroic Failure: Brexit and the Politics of Pain, and Why We Get the Wrong Politicians.'

Random thoughts on glancing through the Yuletide options:
—Great British Bake Off and Sandi Toksvig is not on the list! WTF, people?
—Somebody would like to read and/or write about Jacob Rees-Mogg. This is horrific.
—The Administration (Manna Francis) Hmm. Don't think I could be as ruthless with the characters as Manna Francis always is, but I'd like to see the fanfic. Has there ever actually been Administration fanfic in Yuletide?
—Chalion Saga by Bujold - but I don't even recognise the character names. Bzuh?
—Spotted at least one Lucilla Andrews book, which is interesting as I had a strong LA phase a few years ago.
—Interesting that the Heyers are listed as separate books, which I wouldn't have expected. But I guess we all have our favourites.
—Wait - Knitter's Almanac by Elizabeth Zimmerman, characters Arnold and Elizabeth Zimmerman? My mind, she is blown.

Am off to Convention tomorrow, from Norwich to Llandudno in a coach, starting before dawn. Joy. Cannot decide whether to attempt breakfast before I go, or merely stumble into clothes and wait for the first bio break to get a bacon sarnie. On the whole, the latter seems a more appealing option. It's a long way to go for eight minutes on stage!

Date: 2019-10-25 08:00 am (UTC)I guess the thinking for Heyer is that most of the books are separate sets of characters, so it would be tough to offer all Heyer Regencies or all Heyer mysteries, not knowing which ones people might offer.
Did you see that 4'33'' is also nominated? So tempted to offer it. Or at least treat.

Date: 2019-10-30 02:23 pm (UTC)Heyer... yes, that makes sense. I'd rather read about Frederica or Sophy or Drusilla than some of the more traditional heroines.
4'33" Yeah. I have no words. Natch.
