Now, why would a drabble community require fics to be posted with a word count?
Answer: because it isn't a drabble community at all, it just calls itself one. Bah. I subscribed to one recently but after seeing the third offering posted with a word count of well over 100, unsubscribed. Life's too short to read 'drabbles' that are too long.
*
I am rather, hmm, doughy, and my natural at-rest expression is one of bovine stupidity.
I saw a sweatshirt recently that I was so, so tempted to buy myself. It read:
UNDERESTIMATE ME.
That'll be fun.
I didn't, because I… actually don't think I'm quite the right personality for that sweatshirt. I'll give it to one of my imaginary heroines instead.
*
A rather amusing site with translations from Norwegian into not-quite-the-English-equivalent, but some of them are delightful, and arguably better than the actual English words. Ice bear, Beak Animal, Flower Cabbage, Spike Pig, and Lard Ring (this last is not an attractive description of a doughnut, but it's not inaccurate!).
I love some of the Norwegian words, too: Spissmus and Flaggermus, and the Tusenbein (translated as Centipede, but I suspect it ought to be Millipede).
*
In my recent internet wandering I ended up on the Metafilter Emotional Labor thread, which is huge and from about 2016. I subsequently made a list of the things Beast contributes to the household, and the things I do. Slightly to my surprise—for I honestly thought he did more—we're about equal in tasks and probably about equal in task-weight, too. \o/
*
It *snowed* yesterday! Snowed! For about an hour! I was tempted to hurl Sable forth to investigate, but she was comfy on the sofa and I couldn't quite bring myself to do it.

Date: 2020-12-05 01:06 pm (UTC)I knew quite a few of the Norwegian ones and most of them didn't strike me as odd until it was pointed out, haha. In fairness I did always think isbjørn was funny enough that I once named a car that.

Date: 2020-12-05 10:20 pm (UTC)I think Ice Bear is an excellent name, much more fun than polar bear, although I'd say snow bear would be more accurate still.

Date: 2020-12-06 08:46 am (UTC)The one time I let one of my cats set foot on the snow you'd have thought I was trying to kill her. I suspect the couch was a better choice. Though I do understand the temptation.

Date: 2020-12-07 09:46 pm (UTC)Sable's fur is so thick you'd think she had been bred for the snow, but we generally find her snuggled under the radiator in the mornings. I have ordered her a cat hot pad for the winter, as she has no Fluffy radiator.

Date: 2020-12-06 05:23 pm (UTC)Yeah, "tusen" is thousand in Swedish too so millipede would be the correct name.
It snowed a little here too but that was on Thursday night so by Friday most of it was gone again. Lancecat agrees with Sable that sofas are much nicer than snow.

Date: 2020-12-07 09:49 pm (UTC)We have had no snow today although it was jolly cold. Sable, apart from a brief excursion to bring in a mouse has been loafing indoors.

Date: 2020-12-06 11:35 pm (UTC)I have one that says "Be careful or I'll put you in my novel."
ETA: A drabble is always exactly 100 words or what's the point?

Date: 2020-12-07 07:40 am (UTC)OMG, I also have a naturally stupid resting face! I don't know if I'd wear that shirt, either, but it makes me feel SEEN.
