making lazy circles in the sky
Aug. 18th, 2021 08:37 pmHad a nice little outing on Sunday afternoon. There is a place nearby called Kett's Heights, after the rebel, which offers little guided tours. It's not a big place, though it is quite steep. There are oldish things, like the chapel at the top, which was put there when they were building the cathedral (so, Norman), and newish things like the tumbledown piggery (WWll and possibly WWl). It was also the site of flint mining and extensive gas works about 150 years ago. And now, it's a rather pretty garden, with a team of volunteers who have made a handsome and flourishing herb garden and planted many decoratives, although they have a lot of backlog to contend with.
There is a most fabulous view over Norwich from the viewing area, (see here on my Instagram) with the two cathedrals nicely lined up. The photo is rubbish but no matter.

Today, we have been into town for various chores, and had lunch at a little Italian place along St Giles', where we had our dinner brought to us in the green space opposite. Very nice. I should make it my goal to walk into town once a week and eat in a different place every time. It will be years before we get round everywhere.

Boy will be moving in here on 5th September. No more wandering onto the landing naked for me!

We gave the BBC series "Ghosts" a try, but it's a bit too much sitcom for Beast's taste, and I get fed up with the idiocy of the incompetent boyfriend. Idea has potential, but after three or four episodes it was all too one-note.
So we're watching a French series called "Missions", which is a bit different. Lots of very pretty people and a plot that is reasonably intriguing and unpredictable. It's in American half-hours, ie each episode is around twenty minutes long, so we generally manage two while we eat. I can't say I'm in love with it, but it seems to be worth watching.

Date: 2021-08-19 03:41 pm (UTC)Son and daughter share a house (with some others) here in Norwich, which they are selling so that Bun can buy somewhere with her new man. Boy is going to come here for a bit, and househunt for himself when his inheritance from FIL comes through. Co-ordinating a three-directional house move chain would have been a nightmare!

Date: 2021-08-20 03:55 pm (UTC)Good luck having Boy home. I love when Corey visits but have to remind myself to do things like shut the bathroom door when I'm using it. But, it sounds like exciting times for your kidlets.
That's a pity Ghosts didn't work for you. I binged watched it a few months back and while it's a must-see it kept me entertained. I agree with the one note though, especially at the beginning. I liked when they started to explore the backgrounds of all of the ghosts.

Date: 2021-08-21 06:29 pm (UTC)I really MUST come visit you again soon and see more of Norwich.
I'm sure you'll soon get use to his presence. And we're soon into the cold months anyway :-)

Date: 2021-08-22 10:13 am (UTC)I suspect I'd probably enjoy a bit more of Ghosts, but it's really not Beast's thing, so eh.
