Yuletide letter here

Hi, Yuletide Writer.

I'm not sure if I have more info for you than I put into my Yuletide signup, but perhaps I can think of something. I have asked for a fairly disparate collection, so goodness knows what you may have matched on! Good luck. The most important thing to me is that you write a story you can believe in, because that's the kind most likely to be exciting to read. And have fun with it!

Okay.

The Administration, by Manna Francis.

What really matters to me with this series is that Toreth remains the utter bastard (with layers) that he is in the source material. I don't want woobified Toreth, or secretly-a-nice-guy Toreth! I like his relationships with Warrick and Sara, and will happily read about anything from a dark and sticky situation to... to them going for a picnic in the park. Sex is fine but entirely optional. Ditto, in this case, torture. I mean, it's Toreth. Feel free to use any other characters from the series who inspire you.

Chalion Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold

I think this is the most appealing religion I have ever read about! I like the way the Five Gods work, and of course the Bastard is my favourite, god of leftovers and misfits and occasionally also a queen. I love Ista and would be happy to see her romance progress, to see her continue to have demon-eating adventures, to see her in most circumstances, really, but preferably in her future not her unhappy past. I love Cazaril, and will happily read about him doing pretty much anything. However, I'm happy to read about anyone from the Cazaril-Ista era whom you care to write about.

I'm not so familiar with Penric and Desdemona, but I have enjoyed their stories and would be pleased to read more of their weird and wonderful adventures if that is what inspires you. I don't insist on any particular characters (uh, I failed to keep strict notes on my signup, so it's possible I actually asked for specific ones, so please stick with the rules), and if you want to do something that explores this world and its religion, that would be fine with me.

DNW vicious nastiness, except as a precursor to the story, and not beyond what happens in canon. Sex, if you want to write about it, is fine but not required.

The Deed of Paksenarrion - Elizabeth Moon

Paks is a delight. Write me anything about her, from pre-training days being thwarted at home to post-canon paladin experiences. I don't see her as a sexual person, so I'm not really interested in seeing her get into a romantic relationship with anyone. I'm a person without religious beliefs, so reading about her sincere faith in her actually real gods also works for me.

However, if you want to explore any of the other characters I am generally interested in all of them, so enjoy it! No torture-type stuff that goes beyond the levels we see in canon, please.

Poirot - Agatha Christie

I mainlined the ITV series starring David Suchet a little while back, so he remains my visual ideal for Poirot, but if you are inspired by one of the other options or take your interpretation simply from the books, that is fine. I like his fussy little ways, his vanity etc.

If you can pull off a mystery that he solves, yay! But I would be happy with Poirot going about his life, with an exploration of his history and relationship with Hastings or Miss Lemon or somebody else, or some behind-the scenes looks at any of the stories. His internal reactions to tourist excursions might be fun!

A Knight's Tale

This is delightful tosh, and I am (unexpectedly) charmed by the deliberate mixing of the general "it's medieval! they have horses and really big poky sticks!" vibe with modern music. A soundtrack to your story would be fabulous! Have fun!

I confess to having a 'sidekick kink', which means that I'm far less interested in the central character (and his romantic progress) than in the attendants, the female blacksmith, the herald etc. But whatever you pick, a bit more of this cheeky froth would be lovely.

Shmigadoon

If you wanna write this, I'm guessing you are a fan of musical theatre. So am I! I spent so much of the first series giggling whenever somebody sang, and identifying which Rodgers and Hammerstein character(s)/scene(s) they were referencing. If you can make me giggle in the same way the show did, I shall be your slave.

I actually prefer the musicals of the second series - Sweeney Todd is one of my Top Three, and I was in a production of Sweet Charity - so fitting into the general vibe which miraculously managed to throw various murderers in with hippy dippy types would be very much appreciated.

Or you could extrapolate, if you like - probably into the Andrew Lloyd Webber era? I'm much more of a Sondheim lover than a Lloyd Webber fan, but I'm pretty sure I would recognise the references. I'm probably less familiar with really recent musicals, but if that's your thing, go for it! Or send them back in time to Gilbert and Sullivan and Die Fledermaus and The Merry Widow and Orpheus in the Underworld, if you like. I mean.

Really, it's up to you. Any character(s), any era.

***

Generally, the stories I write are the kind of stories I most enjoy reading. I dunno if that is helpful! What I'm really hoping for is a story by someone who relishes the canon, whichever you choose, so I hope there is something that inspires you.

Hi, Yuletide Writer! I hope that at least one of my requests is something you are looking forward to writing.

I've given some story prompts for each fandom; feel free to use or ignore as you see fit. I have done many story exchanges in the past, and still haven't come to any conclusion about whether it is better to have some ideas from the recipient, or to have to start from scratch and hope an idea shows up. But at any rate, my suggestions may give you an idea what kind of things I like.

Hi. We probably haven't met. This is my first time participating in Yuletide, though I have been writing in other fandom exchanges for quite a long time.
