A question for UK- (indeed, mostly London-) based friends: are there any charities in central London which will accept furniture?

My brother-in-law's girlfriend died last weekend. We are now helping him sort out her stuff, which will involve clearing the flat in the next three weeks. What furniture she has is mostly usable junk, rather than anything special, but it could be usable by someone else if we can figure out how to make it available. Bed, couple of easy chairs, fold-out futon, chest of drawers, that kind of thing. Fridge, probably, too. And a quite pretty, rather old wooden wardrobe.

Anybody know who to contact, or at least, suggest a name I can search for?

I was going to suggest them. They cover Battersea.

Try the Salvation Army, I think they still take donations of furniture.

I know that the Cancer Research shop in Ilford has a back room with a fair bit of furniture in it. Though Ilford isn't exactly central London.

Local Womens Aid charities might be able to help and places such as Home-Start help women who are fleeing domestic violence, giving them furniture and other essentials. There are offices in several (if not most) London boroughs, just do a yell.com search for the nearest or contact one for information on your nearest.

Perhaps you could find something helpful here:-

Well, sounds as if you should find a home for it somewhere.

My concert-organising colleague asked me to find out whether there'd been any response to your suggestion/my poster.
I'd assumed silence meant nothing doing, at least yet.

Thanks for the ticket hints - I delivered a master sheet this morning.

I know there is an Oxfam furniture depot in Leyton, and there used to be one near St Albans, if that's of any help.
