I spent four hours yesterday listening to people read Shakespeare (not very well). Auditions, for our May production of Twelfth Night - all the Drama committee were going for parts, so I was asked to sit on the panel. (Curse it - I'd have loved to have a go at Maria myself, but since I'm directing our other show this spring, that's not an option.) It was a Good Thing to have so many people show up - for a Shakespeare audition! wow! - but, well, there's a down side. However, there's a promising cast lining up very nicely. More auditions to come, though, since the ideal version of this cast... lacks a Viola.

Now, I need to find a good tenor who looks plausibly like a romantic lead, and a pretty soprano who can sing - no, I won't demand the top C (or was it an E???) that's in the score, but Quite High Anyway. Hmm.

I restored Bun to Bristol last Thursday, amidst torrents of rain. Have admonished her to send in her own Camp Sparkle registration form (assuming she has no unfortunate timetabling issues). I see we have hit our fifteen registered participants already, and I know there are at least four more due to sign up, yay, so we shall have a merry throng.

Finally, last week's icon winnings, one of which really looks as though it belongs here!

Hee. We're doing Twelfth Night too this year. In August though. Quite definitely one of my fav of Willie's - probably because I got to play Viola years ago and adored it.

What are you directing?

I like the Antonio story - fun! And the 70s is a good decade for 12th Night I think. Whoever ends up as Viola should read 'Self Made Man' by Norah Vincent. It's kinda annoying but it is a great resource for modern day people still being fooled by women who are dressed and act like men.

And 'Pinafore' should be lots of fun - I have a fabulous re-write called 'Model of a Modern Post Colonial' somewhere on my hard drive.

I absolutely love the "Relax, babe" icon, it's so soft and summery. I also really like the third place Justin icon, the whole composition and the colours is so striking.
