Mar. 6th, 2007 10:17 pmAll right, I admit it:
turps33 is a goddess who must be obeyed. Hence, a writing meme.
Writer's Meme: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fics favourite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
So.
The Things that Juliana Didn't Say is a ST:TNG story set in Data's 'childhood' and based on the assumption that the unspeakable Juliana, his 'mother', was not altogether truthful. It was also my attempt to reconcile some awkwardly ill-fitting bits of canon. But most importantly, it's the first story I ever had beta-read, by the fierce and splendid Berkeley Hunt. I remember still my quiverings when I read her comments, and thought, OMG OMG OMG she's right OMG what am I going to DO? And then the next day, how I settled back into it with fresh inspiration and worked and made it *better*. I'm not sure whether it's the best ST:TNG story I ever wrote, but it's the one where I had something to say, rather than simply a story to tell, so it's the most important to me.
Neville Longbottom and the Boke of Fecretf My one attempt at Harry Potter fanfic, and deemed too rude for the SugarQuill, where sensibilities must, I think, have been unusually delicate. I just thought, one day, If teenage boys really could do magic, what magic would they do? And the story flowed happily out. I have particular pride in my creation of O(phidia) Leaginous, wizardly snake-oil salesperson.
The Chronicles of Lancyn and Ser Chrisfer. I'd had this world, and the Elite, in my head for years, ever since I caught the end of a film set in a boys' school run by mad monks, and spun off a whole new setup involving someone not altogether unlike Chris in the leading role. Anyway, there's no trace left of the mad monks, but it's lovely to be able to play in that world, and to have the world all ready for this story. And I like Lancyn and Ser Chrisfer very much indeed. They keep surprising me.
Backstage is not exactly a story, more of a scene, really, and it is written in, um, blank verse. I have an insane and unshakeable affection for this... piece.
Six Words is my Lance/Reichen fic, and I angsted quite a bit before posting it publically, but I'd had - actually, I'd had Diane Bass in my head, and this story is really all about her. I wanted it to be true, and it just arrived on my screen, I barely edited anything, so it's definitely heartfelt.
Don't tell my other stories I picked out favourites, okay?
I'm supposed to tag people, but really, it's up to you, you, you, you and you to post about your best-beloveds if you want to, so I'm not going to name names.
