pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Lance Corny)

Who'd have daughters, eh? Mine has just revealed to me that she isn't really that interested in going to see Lance on Broadway. Which is fine, except that I've been trying to figure out whenabouts we should go that will fit in with her term times and, hah, went into the local flight shop *yesterday* to find out possibilities just after Christmas.

So. I can stick with my currently semi-booked dates, and fly to NYC on 26th December, home again probably on New Year's Eve. Which is okay, except for New York being, presumably, full of frenzied shoppers at that time. Or I could scrap that plan and go in November, which would probably be a little less stressful.

I'd have a better chance of meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds in late December, which is definitely a point in favour of those dates; what else should I be bearing in mind?

You're going to run into hordes of frenzied shoppers in November, too. The day after Thanksgiving (thanksgiving is on Nov 22 this year) kicks off the OMGITSALMOSTCHRISTMAS panic, and the 'official' start to the xmas shopping season. Though personally, I would rather deal with that, than the post-Christmas, almost-New Year's travel crush :)

I am, however, very SAD to learn you're coming to the states and I won't be able to see you :( *sniffs* Damn that whole having to work thing. *pouts*

Unless you're actually in the shops yourself, I don't think the hoardes of shoppers will bother you. There will be more chance of snow in December and it will be colder, but unless those things bother you, again, not a big deal. If I were you, I would go in December.

The other thing is, if you're going to be there until New Years Eve, consider staying that night. NYC is THE spot to be what with the ball drop and all. Tens of thousands of people fly in for it. But, flying out on the 1st might be a PAIN and will probably be more money.

I would recommend November, as the flights will be cheaper (assuming you're not going in at or directly around Thanksgiving). There will be fewer people there and fewer tourists.

December--any part of December--is my least favorite month of the year to be in NYC. You'd think that the hordes of shoppers would bother you unless you're in stores, but I beg to disagree. The crushing waves of people out and about can be pretty intense anywhere you go (especially since you'll sort of be around the touristy areas of Broadway, anyway).

Personally, I would highly recommend against going in on December 26. From my experience, holiday flights are always an expensive nightmare and other comments have mentioned the huge influx of people that come for New Year's Eve. I also imagine that arranging hotel accommodations for this time might be extremely difficult, as you're competing with a lot of other holiday visitors.

*please* take some pictures. I've already asked all the people who went to see the play and none of them had a camera. *puppy eyes*
