Feb Festival Day 18
Feb. 18th, 2012 08:46 pmToday's rec is for a story that breaks your heart. While popslash is (thank goodness) full of happy, funny, cheerful stories, sometimes someone goes for a quite different effect.
I have two nominations today. First, Green scales fell like rain by Donna, which gives an alternate timeline for Nsync, in which Lance came out during the heyday of the group and the consequences were quite different and distressing. Beautifully done, and scarily plausible.
The other is the Calling All Angels series by
sirkate. It's a very believable look inside the head of someone who decides to kill himself. Here's part one, the subsequent stories are linked from each page. And you'll need to read Iris by Mercutio afterwards, and you may well want to at least start reading Pulled from the wreckage too, as that shows the long road to recovery with, again, a really clear look inside the head of someone who tried to commit suicide and failed. With this latter series, I usually don't read all the way to the end as it loses the fascination of bringing Lance back and becomes a relationship story instead—a complicated poly relationship, sure, but it's the in-a-mindspace-I-don't-know part that I want to read.
Of my own, I guess Broken.
