Rise up and smite your evil overlords, please!

The comments at Pharyngula are usually worth reading, and you should definitely scroll down to number 65, because Josh, Official SpokesGay, makes so much chilling sense.

I quote a bit: It’s really really really really really Super Fucking Important for people like you (and many of us) to get over the idea that this is somehow abnormal behavior practiced only by a fundamentally ill and broken minority of psychopaths. This naivete is what catches liberals flat footed every goddamned time.

Beast found a piece on Ars Technica about "John Carter" (the film), so we went to see it yesterday, and I have to admit, I enjoyed it very much more than I'd expected to. Particularly liked Deja Thoris, who was a strapping wench with arm muscles, someone who looked as though she actually could acquit herself mightily in a sword fight. *And* she was a scientist. Not bad for a 100-year-old characterisation (assuming it was reasonably true to the books). The special effects were impressive—tall green aliens not quite up to Gollum standards, but well done, and the big hairy monsters were great.

And now, I have a cold. Woe. Probably from spending so much of last week at the theatre handing out tickets to all and sundry. We made the biggest loss ever on that show. I think I'm a jinx—last time I was ticket secretary the show made a whacking great loss, too.
