pensnest: Adam Lambert with gold light spots (Adam shines in the spotlight)
I've been very lucky lately in having extra fannishness in my life in the person of actual fans.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] madame_d for curry on a Friday evening not so very long ago. In the natural way of fans we began to natter more or less as soon as I sat down at the table, and didn't really stop until I decided I really ought to go home and went through the barrier at Blackfriars. The poor waiter kept coming back to us in the hope of receiving our order, and eventually had to resort to standing at my shoulder in a rather pointed way until we told him what we would like to eat.

A lot of fun was had, much fannish discussion even as the curry restaurant filled up around us. Eventually we thought we'd better go, and wandered along the South Bank a bit, still nattering - it was a surprisingly pleasant evening, mild and unrainy. I don't particularly remember what we talked about - popslash, Avengers and tennis featured, I'm sure, but it doesn't much matter, as it was great fun.

And for the last few days I've had the pleasure of [personal profile] rikes' company. I wore my shiny new pink cowboy hat to collect her from the airport, having spent much of the morning assisting my ingenious husband in the restoration of flashing lights. Time which could not have been better spent, even though I had intended to hoover. We spent quite a bit of Tuesday watching DVDs and painting our nails in great detail, and she braved the horrors of rehearsal, and so spent quite some time watching us all run around like lunatics.

And yesterday we went Out. There's an excellent market in St Albans with a feathers-and-fascinators stall, where we both bought features and she was entranced by a hat. Then into London to meet [personal profile] ephemera, to have lunch in the ridiculously overdecorated V&A café, go around quite a lot of silver and some paintings and an excellent theatre display, and then look at the special Ball Gowns exhibition, which was just the right balance of 'ooooh, *want*!' and 'wtf??? *whyyy?*' An excellent way to spend an afternoon.

And then, [personal profile] rikes and I went to see Queen with Adam Lambert at the Hammersmith Apollo, and great fun was had. We determinedly stood and danced through nearly everything—a quiet, gentle bit with Brian May on acoustic guitar, and an interminable set of solos on bass, drums and guitar (play the damn song already!) were the exceptions—and wore our new feathers and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. She's off to a repeat performance tonight, and I expect she is yelling and waving right now, but I anticipated having a rehearsal (I don't) and so didn't want a ticket. Oh well.
