Snowflake Challenge 2016 - Day 3
Jan. 3rd, 2016 05:03 pmIn your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Deep breath. Okay, time to show off my own stuff. Right, then.
1. I'll start with Dragon Country This alternate universe is not unlike our own. Technology is a bit behindhand—typewriters and fountain pens instead of computers, to be sure, but there are cars and motorbikes and trams, restaurants and concerts and employment agencies. By the way, I think the story probably stands up even for people who aren’t familiar with my boyband canon, as it doesn’t make use of canon events as many of my AUs try to do.
Lance Bass runs an employment agency which aims to place people within the world of showbiz. He has a particular talent for his job. When a ridiculously good-looking man shows up wanting to make it as a singer, Lance has no problem finding him a place. He does have a problem when the man—Adam—invites him out to dinner. Lance believes there are still dragons in the world, and Lance has been trying to find his way to the dragons for a long time. And Adam wears boots made of dragon-hide.
Warning: this story contains a scene of rape and violence.
Note: If you read the story on my website you will see the header, of which I am also rather proud. Ditto with its sequel (linked on both sites).
2. for this world to be unbroken So I had a prompt for a story exchange challenge, which read: post apocalyptic vampires with romance. Which made me scream and rend my garments for a while, but eventually, as these things do, the story arrived, and in the end I am rather proud of it.
Nick, AJ, Brian and Howie (Kevin left them a while back) are surviving on tinned food scavenged from hidden hoards, and rat. They’ve established residence in a building, and though they are hungry and miserable, they’re safe. Then someone shows up with a turkey, a real, honest-to-goodness turkey roasting in a barbecue, and they have to make a choice between friendship and safety. And rat and turkey.
I’m pleased with the post-apocalypse world that emerged here, and though the vampires aren’t quite the romantic figures my requester probably expected, I think they worked out.
3. Do you like male strippers? Let’s just take that as a Yes, for now, so let me introduce you to Hot Metal, otherwise known as the Backstreet Boys. Show You the Shape of my What? is based on The Full Monty—more the American stage musical than the original UK film—and aficionados of the show will recognise quite a few lines and scenes. The Boys map so well onto those characters… Basically, they’re unemployed and, each for his own reasons, in need of money, so they get together to perform, one night only, special attraction!
Even if you don’t read the story, you should watch THE TRAILER. Yeah. This was my entry for the popslash big bang challenge (Bittybang!), and my artist, the awesome Bubbleforest, made a trailer for it. It is a thing of joy.
4. Finally (although I could do this for hours…), something for people who’re not interested in fic based on boybands, if such people exist. Neville Longbottom and the Boke of Fecretf is my attempt at a Harry Potter story. After lights out, Neville discovers that he has a problem with his… wand. He finds a solution, but unfortunately, he isn’t very good at potions.
