Mar. 13th, 2016 07:03 pmWent to see Deadpool at the beginning of last week—it was fun, though I can't immediately recall anything that was funnier than the opening credits.
Beast has been doing sterling work on the fireplaces: he's flattened the hearth for the dining room and plastered/cemented the innards of the fireplace itself so that it is sealed and fit to accommodate shelves for my cookery books (in due course), and has taken off the hideous tiles from the lounge carpet and removed the hearth for that, too. We now anticipate that The Men will actually remove the entire chimney... this will lessen the weight load and make the foundations easier. Apparently. I know nothing of such matters. But it would be nice to have a flat wall in the sitting room.
I went up to see
nopseud on Thursday, which is always a pleasure, and we visited The Edible Garden Show. I purchased—as is my wont—pies, and jams/curds, and also some cheerful little tomato plants and a watering thing to stand them on. I'm sure I can find them a sunny space *somewhere* in the garden that won't be ravaged by marauding diggers and trucks when—if?—when we get the building work started.
The journey to
nopseud's place was slightly complicated by floods, which Beast noticed about a minute before I was setting out. He wasn't wrong—I managed the alternative route with no great difficulty, and
nopseud and I wandered along the road to take a look at the water situation, which was impressive. Cars were ignoring the Road Closed signs and progressing very cautiously through the water, to the delight of a group of kids in waterproofs who were standing on the raised walkway at the side and waiting to be sprayed. A trail bike obliged by roaring through the flood and sending up a plume higher than the rider's head. He was having a whale of a time, and came round again a few minutes later for another go.
On the way home I paused for lunch a little way off the main road at a National Trust property which, it turned out, was having a face-lift, so there was a marquee in place of the usual restaurant. Still, the food was pretty decent even if served in a carboard bowl, and the shop and plant collection were worth a look. The weather is currently very mild and spring-like, so the journey was agreeable.
And it's always nice to get home again.
