We were out and about today! Went into town this morning for a selection of tasks, including transferring some money to Bun (which took about half an hour!), getting a new watch battery, and checking out a few of the dinosaurs around Norwich. Loads of families with under-10s getting very excited about the dinos and having their pictures taken with them. I witnessed a lot of this as I sat outside the bank. We didn't visit Dippy in the cathedral, because there was a queue - not surprisingly. I figure early September should be better, when the excitement will have died down, the kids will be back at school (fingers crossed) and no school trips will yet have been set in train.

Then we had lunch out. Honestly can't remember when we last ate in a restaurant. We went to Erpingham House, which is handily right next to the cathedral. Ate inside, and had the whole place to ourselves—which is a *travesty* because the meal was incredibly good and more people need to eat there! I had "Fsh and Smashed Potatoes", which was a battered banana flower with little crunchy potato balls, a yummy tartare-style dip and the tastiest peas I've ever eaten. Plus courgette 'batons' with a sweet chilli dip, shared with Beast, who ate an unmeat burger with a beautiful stack of steak fries, and shared a side bowl of veggies in garlicky sauce with me. The only disappointing part of the meal was his hot chocolate afterwards, which wasn't chocolatey enough. I had a Rose Latte, and it was delicious. (We were too full to attempt dessert.) All this, plus a bottle of ginger beer, for £34 (plus a huge tip)! I would be totally happy to go back and eat the same meal again.

I've not eaten in vegan restaurants very often, though there was one in York that was practically everything-free, not just meat/fish/dairy but also gluten free, nut free and... probably something else I have forgotten, and that was really good, too. On the Avis principle, do vegan restaurants have to try harder?

This afternoon, Beast emptied the gutters round the garage. The yew tree sheds incredible amounts of stuff into the road-side gutter. Then we cleared out the first, hmm, fifth of FIL's garage boxes. Most of them were actually empty, so it's nowhere near as much work as the last fifth will be, but we did discover a huge box half-filled with, wait for it, plastic bags! Lakeland freezer bags (3 bags of 20), and uncountable anonymous bags for sandwiches or for freezing stuff. And, well, those are some well-travelled plastic bags. We are tolerably sure they were purchased in the Bexhill Lakeland, prior to 2010, and have made the trip to Australia and back.

I hope somebody on Freecycle needs a WHOLE BUNCH of plastic bags, quality not guaranteed.
