Dorian Gray, an English character by all means, has it spelt the American way.
And Jean Grey (the XMen) has it spelt the English way. Drives me INSANE in the membrane.

Date: 2008-08-29 10:20 pm (UTC)See, you get it. Mind you, for me, 'gray' is a slightly pink-ish shade of 'grey'. I've closed Photoshop for the night, or I'd look up the colours you cite.
Let us rejoice in our weirdness

Date: 2008-08-30 08:07 pm (UTC)geek alert.
Date: 2008-08-30 04:08 pm (UTC)also, you might want to know that the "Grey" word is used in the prismacolor brand (and in general in many art products).
the pencils are marked with "100% grey" "20% grey" "Cool Grey" and so on. They never use Gray. That's the first time I noticed something wrong with those two words.
ETA: I read a comment a few lines above about the Grey containing white + black . Now that I think of it, yes. Grey is a mixture of white and black and it depends on the percentage of black the grey you will have on your hands.
I've been using shades of grey for my entire life and I never thought about this detail. But Syd is right. That's the reason why those are two different colors.
although I don't think desaturated grey is labeled gray. maybe it's labeled mist gray or something like that, but never gray, because if it is, it has a percentage number right beside the grey word.
Now I'll shut up.
