Dear me, how very satisfactory. Footage of Lance learning to slink, and footage of Chris making snarky remarks and singing.

Speaking of which... I've had that damn song in my head all day (sigh), but I would like to know what is so wrong with singing a Patsy Cline song? Is it that Patsy Cline is a goddess and no mere mortal should dare to attempt her music, or is it more along the lines of, nobody except five-year-old girls sings Patsy Cline songs these days? Cos I know nothing of country music, and have no clue.

My verdict so far: Jermain(e?) Jackson, bit nondescript personality-wise, but the performance was good. Hairy guy, enough ego to share, but not really getting the country vibe. Sean Young, embarrassing, could at least try to give a performance. Hunky guy, pleasant enough voice but can't actually sing. Brat, some dubious choices in terms of what she reveals about herself, and I don't like her vocal style, but she can probably sing. Chris looks damn sexy in that hat. Woof. I want a website with the full performance(s).

I dunno what they meant on the show. Speaking as a singer, I never cover Patsy Cline songs because I'm pretty sure my singing would suffer dramatically by comparison, and I don't see any point in putting myself through that. *g* Same reason I don't cover kd lang. Sing at the kitchen sink, and while driving? Hell yes. Perform? Yeah.... no.

Covering something with such a distinctive vocal style is pretty much a losing bet, isn't it. I remember a few years back Alison Moyet did 'That old devil called love', which she copied exactly from Billie Holliday (brainfart moment - is that the surname I mean?) in terms of phrasing and intonation - except she has a totally different voice and should have done it her own way.

I second the website with the full perfomances's suggestion! I died when he sang I Drive Myself Crazy in the first episode (My favorite *N Sync song, *ever* and my favorite *NSyncer... now that was a gift!), and they cut it. And now this one... And while I don't know much of modern country music (Seriously, my one known singer is John Denver!) I would buy a Gone Country CD if they included all Chris's performances!

Interesting - when you look at the lyrics there's no reason why they couldn't be perfectly logical sung by a man. Putting the prisoners in the equation is, well, a bit scary.

They have to write and perform their own song, eventually, don't they - I want to hear *all* the songs in full! Well, possibly not Sean Young's, since she hasn't made much of a showing so far, but the rest, yes.

I agree, no reason it can't be sung by a man, and I think some guy did record it! Willie Nelson maybe. Anyway, yes it's Chris having to sing it to male prisoners that made it kind of scary!

Sean Young should be tossed off the show. She's a mess. A complete & utter mess. They had the lyrics on the teleprompter and she still couldn't sing it!

I would have expected an actor to be better able to at least fake it - she just gives up and makes no apparent effort. It's not as though this performance was sprung on them without a chance to rehearse. It's just embarrassing to watch!

Patsy is rather considered a goddess in the genre. Which always strikes me as funny as she was a hard drinking, hard living woman. Regardless.... her voice was haunting and, here's the clincher for me, so not Chris's range. I admire his pluck for going out and singing it as best he could and knowing they'd make a farce of it in editing.

I agree with your analysis of the performers. Since I don't think Chris really wants to turn Country, I'm actually kind of rooting for Jermaine Jackson to win. He seems the most sincere.

I also can't believe I'm becoming invested in this damn show.

I'd kill for a full version of Chris singing Crazy.

I have a suspicion that Chris has quietly won some points for (a) getting up and helping Sean Young in the first ep, and (b) having the guts to go ahead and sing the song he did in the prison ep.

Jermaine Jackson seems like the sort of person I'd quite like as a housemate. Not obnoxious or a lunatic like Chris Kirkpatrick some of the others in that house...

It would be so nice to hear the whole performance. Yes.
