I'm sorry, but this is Hertfordshire. It is October. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Also, given that a good quarter inch has settled on our lawn already, I assume the entire South East will be at a standstill tomorrow. I shall have to walk to Tescos.

We had rain this afternoon at about 5pm. I'm quite surprised the snow seems to be settling - but it is cold, so... :-(

I'm liking the cold, it was bright and crisp this afternoon, gorgeous winter weather, but the waiting half an hour for my bus in the cold rain this evening was less fun.

It really is! I'm used to October being a really nice month, cold but bright blue skies and sunshine. Which it was, last week.

Hee! So true, we're not that far apart. (A bit more than ten miles, but still.) It's probably got to do with the fact that weather in London is a freakish thing all its own.

Well, London is its own microclimate anyway, but, yes. Compared to American scale, our weather, like our geography, is very 'local'.

Then again, I suppose Chicago is also a micro-climate, but no one thinks of it that way because of the lake effect and nigh-constant winds (not just breeze, but wind. Windy City, indeed.)

But still, I'm 40 miles from Chicago! I know St. Albans isn't that far from London!!

We're twenty-seven miles from the centre of London. But London spreads out a lot!

So did it settle overnight? Did you wake up to pretty white snow everywhere at least? (To my mind, the ONE advantage of snow, which quickly stops as soon as you go outside and fall over...)

See my post of today! I couldn't see out of the bedroom windows this morning, too blurred over, and there was a goodly pile-up of white stuff on the bathroom window sill. But it's mostly gone now, just covering grass and roofs. (Rooves?)

Ick! We had heavy hail storms here today which already sucked more than enough for me. And it's so cold! It shouldn't be this cold yet! It's not winter yet!

It definitely shouldn't be winter yet! On the upside, we plainly picked exactly the right moment to get a new boiler installed.

It's settling for you? I'm so jealous! We had some sleet and then fluffy flakes this afternoon, but it never even looked like settling.

It is, so far, settling quite convincingly. And although the flakes don't look like anything much, they're still coming down. I mean, I'm all for snow, but there's a time and place for everything, and I can no longer sneer at drivers of lesser cars as I sail majestically past them in my four-wheel-drive Volvo.

Perhaps it will all be gone by morning. Come back at Christmas!

Or it might all still be there in the morning, and then you'll have to say 'oh, bugger that' about Tescos, make a big mug of tea, and sit down with a nice warm laptop to write me an AJ/Brian story.

Nah, I have to finish my bittybang story first. Unnervingly, I'm close to word count but not quite so close to end of story. And I think there should probably be sex, which always takes ages to write. Meh.

I've not been up thataway for quite a while - we've mostly abandoned our walks now that we go to the gym. But I don't think the quantity of snow we had would be too much of a burden!
